RIP...
Someday soon, all of the Memphis music legends of the 1950-80s will be gone.
And we aren't crediting new stars like we once did.

RE: RIP Teenie Hodges
That's why I take every opportunity to get out and not only hear, but support Memphis musicians. The talent in this town is astounding. Just when you think you have heard a lot of it, you come upon a band or musician that just blows you away.
I met Teenie at one of the monthly concerts that Stax used to do with its former bands, and he was so friendly and such a good musician. His whole family is entwined with Memphis music. He is gone WAY too soon. RIP, Mr. Hodges.
I wish Stax would bring back those small concerts. They cited cost as the main factor ($15,000 a concert), but it introduced a lot of people to the music and history of Stax. It was a time when you could tour the museum at Stax, mingle with others who loved the Stax sound, and see, up close and personal, in a small room, all the great old Stax legends, and talk to them after the show. It was one of the great perqs of having a Stax membership.

Maybe the weekly Beale Street concerts is a start back along that path, what with different organizations sponsoring different weeks (I think Goner sponsored/will sponsor one). One of my favorites these days is Deering and Down, neither of whom are natives, but decided to locate here.
