Cronin: UC players free to play in summer league

None of UC's current players participated in the City Gear Summer League at Woodward High School on the first day of competition last Sunday, but there's still a chance they will.

Cronin said it's up to the individual player to decide if he wants to play.

"I don't tell them not to," Cronin said, "but what I'll tell you is it's a different time. We're in the middle of our eight-week summer workout program where we're allowed eight hours a week with our guys, two with a basketball and six without a basketball for strength and conditioning.

"We have a lot of former players," Cronin said. "We've built a really good family of guys that are still playing. Dion Dixon is in town. Cashmere Wright, Yancy Gates, JaQuon Parker, just to name a few. The best basketball our guys are going to play is in our gym. They play to win. There's defense. They play hard. With that being said, they're more than welcome to play in the summer league. It's up to them."

I doubt if you see much of our guys playing in summer league from now on. This year especially with the extra practices leading up to the Bahamas trip.
