All things equal...
If the money, visibility, and postseason opportunities were all equal, which conference would you (your team) rather be in?

Most UConn football fans would rather be in the B1G and many hoops fans may still prefer the ACC. Nothing against the American, but either would be better for UConn right now from a geographic and rivalry perspective. I don't think the American is a bad conference, but I don't feel like UConn fits here.

I'd like Memphis, Louisville, and Cincy to be in the same conference...BE, AAC, ACC, whatever.

RE: All things equal...
To be honest, the only true fit for USF in the current Power Conferences is the SEC. The same could be said for UCF. The ACC already has two Florida Schools and will not expand by taking a third. The SEC has one Florida school and may expand with one more. That's if UF ever relents.
The Big 12 is just not viable unless they actually expand with four or six teams east. That's the only true way they could sure up any complaints about being left on an island. Even if they take both UCF and USF, they would have to Take UC and either ECU or Tulane to remove all gaps. While a 6 team expansion would be best for the conference as a whole by adding all six teams mentioned. Everyone agrees that the best expansion plan for the Big 12 is east for markets and media however, no one ever said expansion was simple.
The B1G and Pac 12 are simply not options for USF or UCF. So if all things were equal I'd rather see USF and UCF remain in the American. It's a good conference and in a couple years will probably be arguing if they are the Number 3 Conference or not. Yes I said it, the potential is there.

RE: All things equal...
the pac12..it is a dream in every situation
big12= we'd just be "another texas team"
sec= almost no realistic chance at being competitive for quite some years
big 10= we dont fit culturally or location wise we'd be an outcast and playing in cold weather all the time wont be the best for texas kids
ACC= they are the weekest p5 and are on the inside but barely
american= sorry but its easier to fill a 60k (when our stadium expands) with Ucla, USC, arizona than navy, tulane, memphis and smu (west division)
ideal for me the pac12= we fit in cultural (large research school/uptempo football) we'd be our own team and get a chance to make a name/brand for ourselves (not just another texas team), we can compete right away, a big name brand teams
i thinks its houstons best option

RE: All things equal...
Tough question for me.
On the one hand, I'd want to be in a regional conference. On the other hand, we don't really feel like an ACC school. So, what other regional options are there? The old Big East maybe?
So, to answer the OP question, I guess the current American has a lot to offer.
But the league that would feel "right" was the old proposed Raycom League, which features many schools we had ties to during our independent era.

If given a choice, I would prefer the B12, along with Cincinnati. Although I like this conference, I just am not comfortable with the financial gap between the P5 and G5.

RE: All things equal...
why is this even a legit question...
do you really think UC fans would prefer to be in a conference with tulane, tulsa, if we had the option to be in the acc, B1G, etc??? LOL wow
and that goes for anybody that's on this island of misfit toys....anybody who says otherwise is a liar

IDK. It depends. I'd say SEC first just to stick it to the 4 NC ACC teams.
But if I knew there would be no further realignment and the AAC would consistently out-perform the ACC, then I'd stick with the AAC over the ACC.
Really just whatever conference will be the most competitive after everything leveled out.

not necessarily...in th OP they said money was equal and insinuated a auto-access bowl
depends what you value
for many on face value would pick the SEC but in reality everyone in this conference would be a bottom dweller in the SEC for quite some time before we adjusted (if you adjusted) and im talking maybe a decade. while competing in the american is a dramatically easier task
depends what you value more, bigger name opponents but likely rarely going bowling fo quite some time..or easier titles more top 25 finishes and major bowls

You've got a great point. Like I said, SEC for me would be to stick it to the ACC teams. But we also border 3 SEC states (and 3 ACC states I suppose) so there would be closer fan bases.
My least favorite thing about the AAC is that we're so isolated. It would be nice just to have a UMD or VT in conference... on the bright side, Temple and Navy won't be too far. Cincy isn't that far for those who live in the Piedmont or western part of the state.

i wouldn't want the SEC but I would take the ACC
although, in the SEC we would be one of the better bball programs but football would take it's lumps

RE: All things equal...
if money/access wasnt an issue id rather play UTSA, TXST, LaTech and Louisiana then the AAC, but id rather play UT TCU SMU Baylor and Oklahoma then them
The AAC is a good conference but fans in Texas could care less about most teams east of the Mississippi river

Of course, isn't the real issue that "All things are NOT equal..." nor will they ever be? And sorry, part of that inequality is the make-up of this conference...
And yeah, I understand that if the choice were playing in a conference with UC or Ohio State, UC is hamburger to the OSU prime-rib. But the reality is that every school in our conference is 2nd or lower choice in their state/region. So no matter which way you cut it, this conference lay-out will never measure up to of the other conferences.

I'm not familiar with midwest recruiting but I wonder how it would impact your recruiting for those who want to play SEC ball instead of B1G ball, but want to stay closer to home. How many kids from your recruiting grounds typically go SEC? South Carolina and Tennessee have plucked a few out of our backyard...
