you could be like my family in pittsburgh and use "Y'ins"

When my grandmother lived in TN they used You'ins instead of y'all and looked at you like you had a third eye for saying y'all.

Most of the TN folks I know are from Northern TN - right on the Kentucky line. Jellico.

They say "yuns" . "What yuns doing".
Y'all should be the accepted contraction.

Here is another one for you.
Now, I've always said pecan like "pea can"
And the Yankees and "sophisticated" want to say it like "pe-Con".

Well - we are BOTH wrong.
See - I figure we've had the last part right - but I'm willing to concede the first part of the word as "pe" - almost like you are blowing out some air - but the last part DANG sure aint "CON".

So I now try to say it as pe-CAN - If you can figure out what I mean from all that.

Growing up in DC and moving to Charleston when I was 16 was a culture shock at first. GSU doesn't have many rednecks, nor does Charleston. Anywhere inland in SC is different. Those folk are a different breed.

Nah, just most of ya.

I've got teeth, but can confirm I am from the sticks.

Have you heard about, or even tried, shoes yet? They're this new contraption that go on your feet!

I have this "pecan" debate with my Cajun friends all the time seems like every time we vacation together in Gulf Shores. We: can, them:: con. They think WE sound funny. I told them I was born and live in a P-can orchard and folks from Louisiana should not be making fun of how ANYBODY else talks! At least they get "Vidalia" onions right.

Being an nth generation South Carolinian from the Upstate, I'll take that as a compliment. Besides, so many damn yankees have moved south in past couple decades it's gotten to point most of the people you run across in SC or down in Georgia are either from up north or their parents are, and many of the worst rednecks I bump into are actually from Ohio, Pennsylvania, etc.

I read something a few years back saying a third of the state's population is transplanted. Kinda taking up all the room and services and causing taxes to go up.

As for Charleston, it's just like the rest of the coast and Atlanta, etc. Overrun with yankees.

Oh, and we say pecan with 'can' on the end, but when we say butter pecan ice cream it turns fancy. Hell if I know why.

The PEE-can vs pee-KAHN thing is intriguing. Yankee's and the coastal southern states both say PEE-can vs the Appalachian & midwest area saying pee-KAHN.

How about Nevada, how do folks say that? I've lived there and it should be Nev-a-duh, in Southeast GA a lot of people say Nuh-vah-duh--sounds freaking retarded like pe-kahn to me.

While in Vegas, I was paired with a local for a round of golf. He said that most everybody out there says nev-A-duh, so that's what I go with.
