I agree that the TV Contract blows. However, you are assuming the salaries and expenses are coming from the TV contract. UC also obtains revenue from ticket sales, contributions/donations, the third tier revenue from IMG college, Adidas and other sources.
It is incumbant on the fan base to give us much money and support as possible. When Louisville was in the Big East they garned the same $3M TV deal that we did. However, because they were able to generate revenue from other sources they still had a top 20 revenue generating athletic department, which enabled them to pay their coaches handsomely (Rick Pitino makes $8M/yr, Charlie Strong was making $4M and they were payign their olympic sport coaches very well also).
How exactly is that being done? I know the football stadium expansion was supposed to increase revenue. Other than that, I fear that UC is going to realize 3-4 years down the road that they are no longer able to keep up. The exit fee treasure chest can only tide them down for so long. The P5 isn't going to expand for around a decade (imo), will UC be in good position then? It seems like they are going for broke in the short term.

In the year 2012 UC received $5.8M in contributions from donations to the athletic department. In that same year, Louisville received $28M.

If you are that concerned you could always donate some cash.

The university also supports the athletic department budget to the tune of about $27 million.
