Spring Creek is nice. My Brother is a member. Setting is a lot like the Blessings up here in NWA.

It will be a while before anything happens, if anything does happen at all. I'm pretty sure Windyke is trying to purchase plantation golf club

FDX is not looking to buy Windyke.

Windyke is looking into purchasing plantation.

RE: Rumor- FDX wants to buy Windyke cc
It was kind of interesting over the years going back to the mid 70s, to see the same group of people move from Bevico to Wyndyke and then to Ridgeway. Let's say ten or twelve couples over a 20-30 year period. My in-laws and their group started out at Bevico out on Holmes Road and kept migrating to better clubs and courses.

My father in law was among the first to be approached for membership to Spring Creek, but at his age at that time, he didn't want to drop the bucks. I thought he was going to join Southwind in the 90s but there was something about that place he just didn't like.

Every club, with the exception of Memphis CC, has been forced to "trade down" a level to keep memberships full during the poor economy. People who could only afford Windyke or Germantown CC have gone to Ridgeway. Memphis National and Colonial people are going to Spring Creek. Chickasaw has been lucky because the area around it is so full of young professionals, most of which can't join Memphis CC.

Memphis CC doesn't have to worry about money. Southwind does OK because they are more corporate in nature and the PGA can subsidize it during hard times.

So it looks like some of this came to fruition. Windyke now owns and operates Plantation. Anybody have an idea as to why they are doing this? They have 2 courses and an 18 hole par 3 course. They don't really need another course. I can't imagine their profits are so high that they can fund this kind of purchase for the kicks of it.

Makes me wonder if FedEx really is going to buy the club.

Was Plantation hurting? That was one of my favorite places to play, in fact one of the reasons we moved to Olive Branch with Plantation, Cherokee and Wedgewood within 5-10 minutes of the house.

I played Plantation back in the Spring; It wasn't crowded. I believe play is down over there.

I heard the owner of Plantation on the radio a week or two ago. I don't think it was anything other than he was looking to sale it because he was getting older and already owned Cherokee and the folks who owned Windyke just happened to buy it. It didn't sound like they had any plans to close/sale Windyke or make any changes to Plantation.
