Ohhh. To be an Alabama exec... Sounds kinda like hush money...
The post-presidency compensation for Garrison is perhaps the most noteworthy found in the review of payroll records available online.
Garrison served as president at UAB for 10 years, stepping down on Aug. 16, 2012. Richard Marchase was named interim president at UAB less than a week later. Almost two years later, though, Garrison is yet to be removed from the UAB payroll.
She received her full salary throughout the 2013 fiscal year, which also included a Sept. 30, 2013 payment of $130,000 – the bulk of which was the annual "incentive" bonus that campus presidents receive yearly. Her total compensation in her first year after leaving office was $503,166, which doesn't include the September 2013 payment of $130,000 because it technically was paid 13 months after her resignation was announced.
In the 2014 fiscal year, Garrison's salary was reduced by 41 percent to monthly payments of $25,000. On Dec. 27, 2013, Garrison also received a large single payment of $482,010.
"As a retreating president, Dr. Garrison was provided compensation and benefits per board policy. This included an annual performance incentive, which was paid in September 2013," said Kellee Reinhart, UA System vice-chancellor for system relations.
Despite inquiries by AL.com, no specific explanation was provided for the $482,000 payment to Garrison in December 2013. Also, the UA System provided no explanation to an AL.com inquiry for job duties performed by Garrison since leaving office.
