AAC Year 2
(06-16-2014 08:03 PM)ShoreBuc Wrote:  I would love for ECU to make a run at the access bowl but I have no illusions of how tough that would be with our OOC and AAC schedule. I think 3-1 OOC would be the dream scenario and going 7-1 AAC would be the conference dream scenario which would of course put ECU at 10-2. That would be one hell of a year but not sure it would be enough to beat out the MWC Champion or Marshall who will most likely go undefeated minus crapping the bed against the worst SOS in the country. If the AAC has two teams finished ranked then that is a solid season. I worry about parity in this league and AAC schools basically beating each other up and not having a team head and shoulders ahead of everybody else. I would literally be shocked if a AAC school goes undefeated next year in conference play. Nobody really has a OOC cupcake schedule so we would be doing great next year to have a 2 loss AAC Champion and could very well have a 3 loss AAC Champion. That opens up the door for the MWC or Marshall who would have to completely crap the bed to lose 2 games next year.

It is far more likely we go 2-2 OOC and 6-2 AAC which is a solid year but not going to help the prestige of the Conference but hopefully we curb stomp our Bowl opponent to help out the cause. Somebody needs to step up from UC, UH, UCF and ECU. UCF had the dream season last year and those only come around every so often so if they can repeat that would be amazing. If not UC, UH, ECU or a wild card in the AAC has to step up.

I think Basketball in this Conference will always represent well. Baseball might be a struggle next year. It is great to see Houston back as I remember them in the early years of CUSA being a great program. It would be awesome to see Tulane get back to where they once were. ECU would be doing great to make a Regional next year and do our normal 2 and Q...for non ECU fans that is 2 and BBQ or 2 games in a regional and tucking tail and getting bounced early.

You forgot to mention Ucf. We have done well lately and our squad completely turned over last year. We will miss our ace who just got drafted but we should do better next year than we did this year. I expect us to continue to be in the conversation

If ucf has another dream season and goes undefeated I think they will make the playoffs which would be great but I think they would also get that big12 call before they ever play the game so the big12 can take the credit

I believe Knightbengal was referring to baseball. But yeah if UCF football can keep that lightning in a bottle, they could make a lot of noise for the conference. I think UC, UH, and ECU will make some noise too.

Football- the goal is to get that BCS bowl slot. It will be tough to win it every year but that should be the goal.

Basketball- getting at least four teams in tournament and getting at least 10 units while having a team in the Elite Eight is a minimum.

Those two are the sports that bring the cash and big attention

I agree with that.

I hope we are not disappointed on the hoops side. Everyone is betting on all our top teams grabbing a ncaa bid. Getting an elite 8 team is no guarantee either.

Memphis will be ok. Our silly@ss coach literally sat the#2 recruited class on the bench for his ill thought out 4 guard scheme. We also redshirted 2 4 star recruits who will play this year

RE: AAC Year 2
Football - Access bowl. This is mandatory. We need to get this the next 3 years minimum to establish it as "our" bowl in the minds of the CFP selection committee. Everything else is secondary. We need someone to run the table or have only 1 loss. There are lots of good candidates for this. Houston looks promising, as does Cincinnati. UCF, we need to see how they adapt to losing Bortles and Johnson. ECU has a challenging OOC, but if they come through that clean, it's off to the races. Mark my words, you are going to see USF take a big leap this year. Not in contention for access bowl, but a big leap anyway.

BB - min 4 teams in tourn. Really need 5. 2 sweet 16 teams and 1 elite 8 team (SMU is my choice). With SMU having an outside shot of making final 4.
