Best One Night Performance Ever By An Average Tiger?
So what "average" Tiger basketball player who was never considered a Tiger great had the best performance ever? By average I mean a player who while he may have been a starter, never really did anything great, and whose name would NEVER come up among the better-or best-Tigers of all time.
My best ONE NIGHT performance by a Tiger who was certainly no more than an average player otherwise was by Mike Stewart. This was about 1967 or so. He was a decent guard, with a funny left handed shot that had a "hitch" in it. Never really did a lot, probably averaged eight to ten points a game, give or take. BUT....
One night, maybe against Butler-I really can't remember-he TOTALLY went off and hit for 33 points. Just could not miss. As far as I am concerned this is the best performance ever by a Tiger [b]who otherwise was just average throughout his career.
So-am I in the ballpark here? Remember, there were no 3's back then, otherwise this could have been a 40 point night. Anyone else have a "best performance" by someone who OTHERWISE was very average, but for one night or one game really excelled? Anyone have one that tops Mike Stewart's one time performance?
Let me hear from you! To me, the above is tops, or at the very least very close.

Marcus Moody against OU comes to mind - didn't he hit like 40 or something?

I'm just gonna throw Roburt Sallie's name out there...He won that game for us. We were getting outplayed.
School single-game record for three-pointers made in a game with 10 vs. Cal State Northridge in the NCAA Tournament (Mar. 19, 2009) ... The mark is also a school record for three-pointers made in a game in NCAA Tournament history.

Jimmie Snap Hunter had a couple crazy 30+ games, though I wouldn't consider his talent average

Derrick Chew had the best one night performance ever by an average Tiger. That one shot is legendary in the annals of Tigers Basketball.

People have listed some really good examples. I'll throw in Wilson against Cincy. Like some of the others, it's hard to call him "average" but that night was way above any other for him.

I agree on this.
And it also makes me wonder whether or not we suffered the same effect in that game as we did against Missouri, to wit: Game of Thrown. Did Sallie inadvertently screw up Calipari's timetable?

Would agree on Sallie and Moody as the top 2.
Also liked Barron against South Carolina and Fromm against St. Louis.

My vote. Losing in the first round would have been a disaster and Roburt just kept draining three's. Without Sallie, we definitely lose that game.

I kind of disagree with Sallie. Yes, we lose that game without him going off, but he was much better than average anyway. He was always a GREAT shooter.
Sallie's performance was legendary, but he was not the kind of player I was talking about. He was always considered a great shooter!
Stewart really never did anything other than that game.
But some of the others might be pretty neat!
