Now going for a bigger slice of DFW may be in the cards for future expansion.

That's where someone like Okie State becomes interesting.

They are a 2 for one because they get the SEC into a new state, but they also have a large alumni group in DFW. That would give the SEC 3 big fan bases in DFW (A&M, OSU & Arkansas)

So when the time comes, I say see if the Pokes want to make a change.

I'd like to know more about the SEC's slice of the DFW market. I didn't think the SEC pulled very good numbers in DFW.

When North Texas beat UNLV in the Heart of Dallas Bowl on ESPNU, #24 Georgia was playing Nebraska on ESPN2 at the same time. Those were the only bowl games on T.V., and North Texas won the ratings in DFW. Might have influenced the HOD being moved from ESPNU to ESPN for next season.

I don't know what kind of rating Oklahoma State pulls in DFW, but I'd like to know.

Here's the regular season data I have for them:

It drew 11.3 and 10.4 for OU and Baylor this season with both games having direct B12 and BCS implications. BU was #3 vs #11 OSU and OU was #18 vs #6 OSU.
It drew a 3.0 for KSU in 2012 on ABC when KSU was #3 and unbeaten.
It drew 9.1 for OU in 2011 when OSU was a game away from a Big 12 title and hoping to not get screwed by the Bama vote. OSU was #3 and OU was #13.
8.7 for Texas in 2011 when OSU was unbeaten. UT was #22 and OSU was #6.
7.7 for A&M in 2011 when OSU was unbeaten and A&M was predicted to do well that year prior to losing 5 more games. OSU was #7 and A&M was #8.
5.5 for UT in 2010 when UT was the worst they have been in over a decade and OSU was #12. Still it's UT and they tune in either way.
5.2 for Tech in 2009 when OSU was an outside shot at the BCS and Tech was coming off their huge 2008. OSU was #17.
8.0 for unbeaten UT in 2009 and OSU was a one loss team with B12 title hopes. Texas was #3 and OSU was #13.
6.5 for an unbeaten vs unbeaten game vs UT in 2008 with direct BCS title and Big 12 title implications. Texas was #1 and OSU was #7.

All of these except for the KSU 2012 game are against teams with lots of people in DFW and all were doing well except UT 2010. Each school other than KSU on this list has 40k or more alumni in DFW and rivalries with major Texas teams. (except OU who has 12-15k but a TON of native Okies who now live in the area and cheer like mad for the sooners)

OSU probably does well in DFW but to say the data is incomplete is an understatement and the steep dropoff for an ABC game vs top 5 KSU in 2012 might point to significantly less viewership when a "home" team isn't pushing a chunk of the rating. OSU only has 12-13k alumni in DFW and OU is the major brand for most Okies who relocate. It certainly casts a question on it.

Again the idea is 2 for one.

SEC adds another state and a bigger slice of the DFW market.

Besides, who are Okies and alums people in DFW gonna watch? OU vs any B12 team not named UT or the OSU vs A&M/Arkansas/LSU/Ole Miss/Auburn/Bama game?

I know you Big 12 homers will say "of course they'd rather watch OU vs TCU than OSU vs Auburn" but come on, even your homerism can only go so far.

It depends on which specific games you SEC homer. OSU-MSU has little prayer while OSU-Bama would have good odds.

OSU vs MSU is the only "bad" game the SEC West would offer them. But what Big 12 game other than UT would excite OU fans?

Besides the "rumored" aggy-Tech games, we are in talks with another SEC school. Rumors are it is Home/Home and then a neutral site game in Arlington or Houston. I hope it is in Houston at Reliant Stadium. 45-50K Tech fans at 71K seat Reliant Stadium in "SEC" country will dispel the notion that Houston is a SEC town.

Kliff wants to play an easy game like SMU/Central Ark, a regional opponent against houston, UTEP, New Mexico and then a P5 opponent. We play Arkansas the next 2 years and have Arizona St lined up as well.

Have the SMU AD call us? We like Dallas and will play at the AAC, renovated Moody or wherever and we will fill the place up. I'm sorry not sorry that SMU is a warm up game for Tech. It doesn't matter which sport it is.

Don't get mad, it is what it is. Tech isn't scheduling SMU for SMU, we schedule that for our recruits and fans in the Dallas area.

Tech would only get 100 tickets for basketball as we are sold out

LOL---- Then I respectfully hope we meet in the NCAA tourney this year. Tech has been there in the past 10 years. How long has it been for SMU?

Like I said, smu is nothing but a warm up game for us. You hate it and I'm sorry, not sorry but deal with it.

Yeah--- good point. Kliff had to re-work the roster once pine box ran off to a g5 conference. I doubt that will be a problem in the future with Kliff getting recruits that want to be at Tech.

That being said, smu is still smu. You're not baylor, you're not tcu. You are smu----- home of the hooker killer. Home of the 1st death penalty. Home of the 1st trophy given out out in pre-season basketball. Congrats04-cheers

Is June Jones still your HC? With all the money smu alums make and you can't get that loser out?

I have a feeling the SMU admin would gladly enjoy being UT's *****. Sadly, their fans have little hope but to hang onto a top 10 pre-season ranking in a sport that doesn't start for 5 months in Texas. Congrats and no wonder smu was left behind
