As long as this is a possibility, the UAB football stadium will not be built. If the dome is built, a UAB football stadium will never be built.

Playing in a 55,000 seat dome will suck just as much as Legion Field. Except maybe the hotdogs will be better.

We can wish for an OCS all day long. Right now and for the foreseeable future we don't have the resources or leverage to make it happen. On the other hand, a facility funded by private and public dollars by the city of Birmingham has real potential.

I don't think a city dome or whatever facility makes an OCS an impossibility anyway. It might delay things but that would allow us to get our house in order so to speak and maybe a few important funerals to take place that would allow us to get an OCS.

The real issue is whether we want to continue playing in LF or in a new city dome facility. An OCS is otherwise off the table right now. Not that it should be, but those are the cards we are dealt for the time being.

Wonder how much our rental fees will increase over what we have to pay to rent Legion Field?

History says a dome will never be built in Birmingham. Nor will UAB ever get an OCS.

+ 1. We will need to increase attendance before even the new UAB admitsration will approve an OCS. That is unlikely to happen at legion field but better teams and a regions field type effect maybe

A dome means no more rain games with 1200 people in the stands. 25k in a 45k stadium would still be loud and could be made to look like a decent crowd on tv

That's about the max crowd size for events that will be there. The ASU/AAM will be moving to their campus & other SWAC type events have moved to other locations from LF so there's not a need for the 70k+ be it tailgating room or crowd room in stadium. Can we kill the AAMU/ASU game is moving to their campus lie. It’s a lie and a rumor. We may move to Atlanta but the game is too big to be played at either one of our respective campuses and we're not going to miss out of the exposure and money that the Classic brings. The MEAC/SWAC Challenge will also be back in Birmingham either 15-17 or 16-18 I forget which one and the Labor Day Classic and Miles vs Tuskegee is back on next year. The city has been doing some serious "card playing" to bring back some big time HBCU events to the city. 2013 was the first year in decades that Birmingham did not host at least 3 big-time HBCU events and due to the fact that there are tons of HBCU alums within the city, the public has been very vocal about that. Like I said 45,000 is way too small.

Then start increasing the budget... and the bigger that gets the less likely it is to happen.

The size of the MPF should be decided by the conventions and other gatherings it hopes to attract. Since UAB football is likely to improve and therefore enlarge the crowds it attracts, we will have some priority in the facility's use, but keep in mind that UAB has changed dates of FB games for TV at a late date on more than a couple occasions. UAB and the city should work together on such arrangements for the greater good of BOTH. They should be partners in progress, not "my way or the highway" antagonists. They will both benefit from the successes of each other and should make that a priority.

What are the chances that the bowl game and / or the HBCU events will want to continue to play at Legion Field because of the tailgating space around the stadium? Would this space move easily to the MPF? When / If the MPF is built, and all parties agree to move to it, will the city consider selling the park land to UAB for its expansion uses as a "west campus"?

Good question. To keep anything at Legion Field there would have to be some significant upgrades done to the stadium and I'm not sure if the city can do both the upgrades and the new MPF. Your question is an oustanding one. The Magic City Classic draws 65,000 plus inside the stadium but you have another 40-50,000 people who never enter the stadium because of the festive tailgating outside.

Why would they move it to Atlanta? Seems out of the way for both schools (more so than Birmingham already is)
