World Cup Thread
I know no one cares...

Who are you rooting for? Seems like a lot of Americans are rooting for other countries. Some are claiming they'd even root against the two time defending World War Champs which seems odd to me. We all root for the USA in the Olympics - we don't see people rooting for Spain to win gold medals. What makes the World Cup different? I rooted for Mexico back in 2006 because I was in Mexico for the three weeks of the World Cup, I bought a bunch of jerseys, other memorabilia, and alcohol. It was a great time. That said, I don't care that the USA sucks at soccer, I'm going to root for them. I find it pretty un-American that there are people who are going to root for Germany because their great great grandparents traversed the Atlantic Ocean and entered the USA through Ellis Island after leaving their homeland.

Who cares? Klinsmann said the US can't win it, so I don't GAF.

P.S. Soccer sucks.

I always root for USA; in everything. Even sports I am not that familiar with. I enjoy soccer. I get into the world cup a bit too. USA is actually ranked 13 in the world, so not exactly terrible. We won’t win; but we have a better chance at winning World Cup this year than we did at winning the Lake Placid Olympics hockey gold. Just hope we can get out of the group play. Very tough group.

I just hope I can stay awake during the 0-0 tie in regulation, and then not nod off during the 0-0 tie during the extra time period, and hope I'm still awake when it comes down to the shoot out.

Can't they just do away with the game and go straight to the shootout?

A lot of plays being made during those tie games if you appreciated or understood. Serious, only thing that comes close in my mind is Olympic hockey with the best in the world playing and caring.

Monday is must win. Then we need to steal one, which is Jurgens whole MO anyway. I'll miss Landon personally, not sure team USA will or not.

I agree about having pride in your country. I'll always root for Team USA. It's only after they're eliminated that I will cheer for someone else like Germany or England.

I actually watched the second half of the Brazil-Croatia game. Croatia impressed me. A couple calls go differently and they could have pulled off a huge upset. Brazil was sloppy.

I think Spain bounces back. That was a meltdown. 1-0 to 5-1?! What?!?

That was great. Any time they get punked it's good, but they look a lot better.

I always root for Italy. Being 100% Italian might have something to do with that-LOL!!! However, I do root for the USA in their games. I like what I saw today, in Italy's 2-1 victory. That being said, I think we must get Buffon, our #1 Goalkeeper, back from his ankle injury, to compete for the title!!!!
