RE: drank the Kool-aide - or purple drank
If I lived in Kalamazoo, I would try to go to as many football and basketball games as possible as well as hockey.

College sports, especially the college you attended, is always an interesting event.

We live in Nashville area now, and the support for Vanderbilt football by the loyal fans has recently been rewarded with wins. It's a great take.

I said this before, I always support Western sports and their coaches whoever they are and wish them the best. I'm not as knowledgeable about sports as others on this forum, so support is all I can offer. Heck, it's the Broncos. It's a great day to be a Bronco no matter where you live.

As long as I live in Kzoo, I'll go to every football game I can.

I was there for the Darnell year. Cubit last year. Flecks first year and his last. Along with the next guy and the next guy. I have not missed a game that I can recall since I was on the sidelines as a red shirt in 91.

I had the same experience this year. We have two seats in section B and one seat next to us is always empty. When we bring someone with us we try to buy the seat but it is someone's season ticket seat. We end up buying a cheap seat and just have the guest sit there.

naughty-naughty!

We are hoping to get back into B this year. We were Row 5, Seats 7,8&9

Seat 10 was always empty.

last year I had tickets on the other side of the court, and it always looked like my old seats were vacant.

You must have been looking at the wrong row. My wife and I got two of your seats and I was always there (wife would not make the drive from GR in bad weather). Great seats and glad to have them. Sorry if we block you from getting back to B.

RE: drank the Kool-aide - or purple drank
I definitely don't think I am a fair weather fan. Like I said, I have been a season ticket holder since I graduated from WMU 20 years ago. I am in those seats nearly every home game.

My decision isn't solely due to last years fiasco. This has been building for several years. As I have stated numerous times, I am just tired of getting the same old song and dance about how great everything is and how THIS is the year. Last year kinda put me over the top a bit after the dog and pony show that went on for 9 months leading up to the season and then the product that was on the field. Add to it the fact that I get more angry being there and seeing a half empty stadium all the time and my level of frustration reached a limit. I found myself last year for really the first time in 20 years, wishing that I didn't have the tickets because I felt I had to go, rather than really wanting to go. And I could rarely find anyone else interested in using them. So I decided not to renew this year.

I'm sure that I will still pick up tickets to games I want to go see. I know that I wont totally stop going. I just don't want to feel like I HAVE to go. Maybe I will gain a better understanding of why others in our community don't seem to give a rip about WMU and why the stadium is always half full. Maybe I will decide to travel to a few more away games this year and see different venues. I guess we will find out how much I really want to be at the games based on how often I end up buying tickets for individual games (I know there will be seats available).

If all of this makes me a fair weather fan, then so be it. In all my years of being a season ticket holder I never saw a championship team. I remember the excitement of the late 90's and early 2000's with great fondness. But that excitement has left the building and for the time being, I guess I am leaving with it for a while.

I did the same thing with Basketball. I graduated in 2002, and did not move back to Kzoo until 2005. Since then I have hardly missed a basketball game. One year I decided to not renew my season tix. That year I actually really missed it, and actually spent more on tickets, due to the discount you get by buying season tickets.

just when I thought I was out...

I think its possible to be an ardent fan and still have periods where you go a little "fair weather"... that is all I am suggesting here WW42... I believe it happens to everyone. I was merely stating that you weren't (as you said) a "bad" fan...
