Long-term/rational: Access bowl. in the post BCS era conference affiliation matters; recruits, t shirt fans and TV$$ care about the conference patch on the jersey as much as the name on the front of it. its the same circular logic that the P5 use to keep us out, Bama's SOS is tough because they play LSU, LSU's is tough because they play Bama. As long as they dont play us they can say we cant beat them and never have to prove it

Kinda weird. Most of the comments say they'd rather their team win but the poll reflects otherwise. Got some lurkers out there....

what is important is what's best for your own school.....UC's AD, coaches, players, etc don't give two craps about other schools nor should they. I care about UC winning. That's it. I could care less about other schools winning unless it helps UC.

example: I root for AAC team vs OOC. Why? Not because I really care if the AAC team wins or not but because if the AAC team wins, then when UC beats the AAC team it's a better win for UC. I'd rather play and beat a UCF team that beat Mizzou and South Carolina than play and beat a UCF team that got bombed by Mizzou and South Carolina.

The bottom line is, I care about what's important to the AAC ONLY in the light of how much it helps UC. I could care less about every other team in this conference beyond that. And that's not because it's the AAC. I would have this attitude if UC was in the ACC, B12 etc.

People get to hung up on conference championships. It usually amounts to 1 games difference in the standings if that and the schedules aren't apples to apples. Sometimes teams with worse records win them for instance USM a couple years ago over Houston who even after they won had more overall CUSA losses and a terrible one to 3-9 UAB. Houston certainly had the better overall season championship or not. I'd rather be top 25 nationally or have the best rank/season possible than win a conference championship. That's the real endgame.

I think this is an easy question to answer: are there ANY Southern Miss fans who rooted for Houston to win the CUSA championship in 2011? If it were ECU or UCF in that position in place of Southern Miss, would any one of you been rooting for Houston to win over your own team?
