Tostitos to end sponsorship of Fiesta Bowl
Interesting.....

"The SBJ writes that ESPN's asking price for title sponsorships has increased from the $15-to-$20 million per-year range to near $25 million after the establishment of the College Football Playoff, and that "the price increase ... could have played a role" in the Tostitos decision."

To me, this is another indication that we may have already jumped the shark when it comes to media deals. I would not be surprised if the next round of media negotiations produces smaller payouts to the P5 conferences than the astronomical amounts we saw in the most recent renewals.

There are other companies that will pick up that deal and run with it.

I don't think the sponsorship money will determine the level of the next round of media deals. That will be determined by whether ESPN et al. can keep increasing per-subscriber fees for every cable/satellite home even if no one in the home watches sports on TV. If that revenue source shrinks, then every college conference and pro sports league will get less money in its next set of TV deals.

The big 10 is making bank with their network and pushing the network in the standard package in the region. Grandma has to fund these million dollar salaries.

After the scandal the bowl had, I am surprised that Tostitos lasted this long.

Perhaps there's more NCAA lawsuits coming... I'm out of this freaking mess, Tostitos may have said.

You're right about what will drive future contracts. I have been saying before the recent sponsor shifts that I think the market is at least approaching a saturation point, if it hasn't already passed it. Sure, somebody will replace Tostitos, or Discover. Sponsorships change all the time. If I could show math that would support what amounts now to a gut feeling on my part, then the shift would already have happened, because then everybody would be convinced it's time to jump ship.

I just think that before the current contracts expire, ESPN is going to find out that their product isn't profitable enough at these prices.

Also within that article. Discover is ending it's sponsorship of the Orange Bowl to be replaced by Capital One. The Citrus Bowl (Capital One Bowl) will have to look for a new sponsor. While I haven't liked that bowl going fully by a sponsor name, it's been big (even bigger than several BCS games) over the period with it and I'm sure they hate to lose it at the same time that the CFP is downgrading them a bit.

They finally opened a Chipotle here in Louisville. The hype was a waste as Quedoba and Moes Southwest both blow Chiplotes away . They new to liven up the restaurant. White Castle has more decor and Atmosphere inside. Thought I was in a Break room at work.

Qdoba & Moes are dogfood compared to Chipotle.
