Agreed -- good hire for Tulane. I still have hopes that when Coach Graham retires (hopefully not soon), then Pierce can re-join us.

That has been my dream scenario for a while. I've always thought Coach Pierce was the natural successor to OG.

We need to pay whatever it takes to get him here (assuming another better candidate doesn't present himself) when that time comes. Luckily, I don't think that will be an issue with our new AD.

In other CUSA baseball coaching news, Louisiana Tech hired Greg Goff as its new head coach. He was the head coach of Campbell (they beat Old Dominion in the Columbia regional this year). And of note, the Camels joined LSU, Florida State, Oregon, Oregon State, Louisville, South Carolina and Rice as the only NCAA Division I baseball programs with at least 40 victories in each of the last three years.

Sounds like a solid hire as well.

This quote from the linked Advocate article is interesting in light of the prior thread on the relative disadvantage that Rice operates at w/ respect to recruiting:

"When the discussions were completed, Pierce’s name was at the top of the Tulane’s list. But sources told The Advocate that Pierce needed some additional persuading due to the makeup of Tulane’s scholarship structure. The university offers fewer need-based scholarships than Rice and carries a significantly higher tuition price tag than Sam Houston State."

Given Coach Graham's success at Rice, I think its a topic most of us prefer to ignore. Long live Wayne Graham!

David Pierce's entire staff from SHSU will join him at Tulane. Sean Allen, a hot HC prospect, turned down chance to apply for SHSU head job.

Ouch-- quite the blow to SHS, especially since they also are in major rebuilding/reloading mode after losing a load of Seniors who started this year.

Sounds like Pierce has his team and is on his way.
