NBR : Details on Pearl's AU contract
"Pearl's bonus-laden deal runs through June 30, 2020 and starts at $2.2 million his first year with a $100,000 raise each year. Auburn can fire him with cause if he violates his NCAA show cause order, which expires on Aug. 23, for violations while coaching at Tennessee, or if he is found guilty of major rules violations. He'd also owe Auburn $500,000 if that happens.

Pearl is barred from talking to recruits under the show cause sanction.

His 20 bonus clauses would include up to $600,000 tied to the NCAA tournament if Auburn wins a national title. He also gets more easily reachable incentives such as $25,000 for winning nine SEC regular season games.

If Pearl leaves Auburn before April 15, 2016, he'd owe $5 million. That figure then drops by $1 million a year before falling to $250,000 on April 15, 2020."

Pearl also gets eight tickets and two parking passes for each Auburn home football game, among other perks.

Article includes details on Malzahn and his assistants, but I suspect we all knew they would get big money. I confess I'm surprised at how serious AU was in their pursuit of Pearl. Money talks.

Saw another site Pearl is toast if violation during
Show cause and standard anytime else

But did not mention a morals cause. With pearl alcohol and
drinking with coeds problems could be crucial to his future

RE: NBR : Details on Pearl's AU contract
When dealing with our state's two BCS Athletic programs that annually (for the past 5 years) are averaging spending $200,000 or more PER ATHLETE, that kind of money is just the cost of doing business at that level. In 2010, according to the Delta Cost Project, the MEDIAN SEC athletic program spent $165,000 per athlete while the #2 conference MEDIAN program - in the Big 12 - spent over $35,000 less per athlete. It dropped off from there for all the rest of D1 conferences.

We need to keep in mind the stratospheric salaries and facility perks our athletic establishment considers "normal" at each grade level in Alabama.

Those free tickets and parking places are worth substantial money since "boosters" are willing and able to pay handsomely for them all. They can then be turned over to cooperative secondary market folks to make at least part of the money back or maybe even make a profit. In other circumstances, it might be called "money laundering".
