That's a little joke ODU fans have with our former conference mate. We frequently use it to distinguish between Georgia Southern and Georgia State.

It's a running joke not only with ODU fans, but other fans of the CAA (and of course Georgia Southern). Some of Georgia State's more, um, enthusiastic fans rubbed people on message boards the wrong way when they announced their move up to FBS, from what I'm to understand. So fake GSU became a thing, especially since established (for football) GSU was so much better despite not announcing their FBS move until later.

How exactly am I taking shots at ODU? Two different ODU fans inexplicably call Georgia State the "fake GSU" for moronic reasons.

Georgia Southern has no more claim to GSU than Georgia State, and Southern could win that head to head match up by six touchdowns ten years in a row and that wouldn't change that. Both schools are GSU, is it really that difficult to simply say Georgia State or Georgia Southern?

And the kiddy table remark was not a shot at ODU, it was a shot at name smack and at FCS in general and more specifically the myopic nonsense that goes on at Any Given Saturday.

Furthermore I was not defending Georgia State, I would have made the same remarks if you were talking about University of Southern Cal vs University of South Carolina, University of Tennessee vs University of Texas vs University of Toledo or Oklahoma State University vs Ohio State University or any of the other examples of schools with the same initials.

Name smack is one of the most basic simple minded forms of smack out there, if you consider it "fun" you and I have very different views on fun.

Lastly, I couldn't care less who was invited first, again I have nothing against ODU, I actually had ODU in my top five choices when I was strongly considering grad school. So if you want to get all butt hurt, don't do it on behalf of your school, do it because I'm calling your smack talk moronic.

Now that we have your permission, all of us can breathe a little easier. Thank you for your graciousness in light of our sophomoric attempts at rivalry-based humor. Even though neither GSU qualifies as a rivalry.....the real GSU ended our season twice in two years, and the fake GSU was nothing more than a cupcake that gave us indigestion after three lopsided ODU victories. Our fanbase will really TRY to do better to meet your expectations of what you deem to me appropriate humor. Maybe one day, us heathens can truly deserve your favor.

Now if only we can come up with some moronic name humor for our nationally-televised game with MTSU on a Friday night in late September. Beer and bourbon is on me.............
