CUSA in the Independence Bowl?
I was just on conferenceusa.com and I noticed that the site lists the Independence Bowl as one of our tie-ins for 2014. The opponent will be from the ACC or SEC. I thought we were only the backup, in case someone couldn't send a representative. Can anyone shed light on this for me?

RE: CUSA in the Independence Bowl?
So, we have five primary bowl slots this year? What happened to the New Orleans Bowl? I thought we just signed a six-year deal to be their primary representative against the Sun Belt.

CUSA still has the NO Bowl and most years will likely have the Indy Bowl

It's all a bunch of vague BS because at the end of the day wheeling and dealing will occur and none of it will matter. We've got 5 primary and 1 secondary agreement for the next few years at a minimum.

RE: CUSA in the Independence Bowl?
The vagueness is further complicated by the fact that the NOB for example is one that we will play in three times over the next six years. A lot of the G5 schools have reached agreements to share some of the bowls. I can't recall which years we're supposed to be in New Orleans, because I don't have the desire to keep up with them all but MTowho said it best. It's all going to be negotiated at the end of season anyway.

I believe there are nine or 10 bowls that C-USA has an association with over the next six years.

RE: CUSA in the Independence Bowl?
The NO Bowl is now part of the G5 bowl pool. IIRC, appearances are CUSA 4, SBC 4, MWC 2 and AAC 2. CUSA has five guaranteed slots per year from various bowls. If memory serves, the yearly slots are HOD and NM. Hawaii and BOB combine for 1 slot and the other two come from the G5 bowl pool. As witnessed by the Miami horse trade, the bowl pool is NOT set in stone. Through various back up arrangements and overflow from other conferences, it's unlikely a bowl eligible CUSA team will be left out.

FYI, all CUSA and MWC bowl dates and times have been set.

Of note, 4 of the MWC's 6 bowl games are on Dec 20th and all are before Christmas.

MWC is the tie in this year with the SBC

It's BS. No team from this edition of CUSA is going to that bowl or any bowl founded before 2000, unless it's after they've left CUSA.

I wish some reporter would tie either Banowsky or Aresco down on the exact details of these secondary Independence Bowl ties. I've been curious about how exactly they work since both conferences announced them.

The problem is the Independence bowl committee and main supporters want 2 BCS programs. That's exactly why theirs a hotel tax being pushed thru Louisianas government system to add a few million to payout and entice SEC and ACC to send "better" teams

The hotel/motel tax would only bring in roughly $900,000 a year to the Independence Bowl. This would not be enough to entice "better" SEC and ACC teams to the I-Bowl or move the bowl up on those conference's pecking orders.

Our problem with the I-Bowl is that its selection committee considers even a 6-6 Ole Miss or NC State team to be better options than anyone in a GO5 conference.

YOu can say same thing for every bowl if their were enough 6 and 6 teams they could pick from...They would select 5 and 7 P5 teams before any of our teams if they could...

Yep, kind of like a 6-7 Georgia Tech team over an 8-4 Middle Tennessee team that bludgeoned that very same 6-7 Georgia Tech team during that season.

The I-Bowl, like everyone else, is trying to sell tickets and fill hotel rooms. The most attractive guests will be the programs that bring many fans. I was stunned by how 6-6 Mississippi State turned Memphis maroon last year for the Liberty Bowl. I don't begrudge them that mission.

RE: CUSA in the Independence Bowl?
Even though C-USA is a backup conference for the Indy, as is the AAC, I'm leaning towards one of us getting in this year. As someone in this thread mentioned, it would be nice to know the actual setup of having 2 backup conferences to the same bowl. C-USA announced first and then the AAC. If there is no significance to the order of announcement then I guess it could be a free for all. AAC has too many tie-ins this year, I believe, so I'm banking on C-USA having the slot. No one from the SEC due to playoffs, Sugar Bowl, and about 19 others they've signed on with.

If you're team does not travel well than you almost have to be happy any bowl is even selecting you in the first place.

Regardless of what conference you play in if you have a solid attendance record you will be noticed.

On that note there really does need to be some clarity on the I bowl and AF bowl secondary agreements.
