C'mon - it's naive to think that positive reinforcement works in all walks of life except politics and military affairs when your favored clown is involved. I am on record as saying that this was probably the right and necessary thing to do (necessary in terms of achieving political and foreign policy goals), and even I concede that this will make capture and kidnappings of Americans (not just soldiers) more likely in the future... my only point of disagreement is how much more likely (I don't think it's a lot).

No sane person would think these 5 would make nice after leaving Gitmo. This is almost a blueprint of when Scotland released Abdelbaset al-Megrahi, for medical reasons, dying in 2012, remaining alive for almost 3 years after release. These 5 will live a lot longer than 3 years unless we can kill them this time.

2. These guys aren't supposed to be home for a year.
3. These guys have been away from the operations of the Taliban for a decade.
4. What attacks have occurred to Americans from Taliban forces outside of Afghanistan?

I didn't take offense. I was objecting to the idea that this backlash is all because of opposition to Obama and that the idea that this would encourage terrorists would not have traction under any other president.
