good point since his mother called Wayne today and thanked him for protecting Zech....

I finally thought of a fitting 2,000th post.

F**k Keith Law and the horse he rode in on.

I moved squarely into the pro Dr. K camp based on a rumor of his correspondence with KLaw that basically said the same thing with the suggestion that there would be stronger language to follow. Of course the correspondence was done in a very professional manner, according to the rumor. Props to Dr. K. for backing your coach.

13th, hope you're right...and, if so, long overdue. Kuddos to Dr. K for doing something in an official capacity that should have been done a long time ago. Do you really think Andy Petitte would be risking his son's future-- especially after having already gone under the knife-- if he had any doubts about Wayne's use of pitchers...and he had first hand experience at San Jac.

I am not a lawyer, so I can't say what constitutes libel. However, I am fully qualified to say: that guy is an *******.

It's a no-win situation for Rice. Make this a bigger or legal issue, and 10x as many people hear about all the injuries, and Kenny Baugh, and the problems of the Big 3, and why people think Lemond was misused, etc.

Also, probably best to tread lightly in making an adversary of ESPN given their reputed role in driving the conference realignment process.

And - I say this as one who is not a huge fan of the Worldwide Leader.

So at this point, do we expect either Smith or Ditman to return? Additionally, seems like Reeves and T. Teykl might be coming back.

I would guess both would sign. However both are Sophs eligibility wise. Guessing that Ditman has the best leverage coming off a really good year and Smith needs work which may be better accomplished in the minors where the importance of winning/losing games is less.

Tiki, why are you guessing both would sign, given that both still have considerable leverage given they are Sophomores, with 2 more years of eligibility, and the slot money for a 15th round selection is under $100,000? Certainly, in the case of Matty, who has only pitched for 2 years, you'd think another year as a stud closer-- and developing a 3rd pitch to go along with his fastball and "plus" curveball-- could see him move up the draft board substantially...and he'd still have at least some leverage next year. I had heard he would seriously consider turning pro had he been drafted in the first 10 rounds, but on the 15th round-- even with a great organization as the Cards-- I just don't see the rationale.

With the 837th pick of 2014 MLB Draft, Padres select... Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M. He is listed as SS.

RE: MLB Draft Thread
If I was a pitcher with good stuff and 2 years of eligibility remaining, I would definitely return. Look at what guys like Cingrani and Price and others were able to do. Even guys like Baugh and Skaggs still got much better signing bonuses, even though they lost some leverage as seniors.

I asked this in a different thread but was Caleb Smith on the regional postseason team? I remember a graphic during the A&M game talking about who was available for us in the pen and they were mentioning Williamson and others, but not Smith (and Rutter pitched despite most of us not realizing he was an option).

Seems like a no-brainer to me that Ditman and Smith would return. Of course I was a fellow that actually enjoyed college pretty well.
