Works quite well. Only thing I made sure I did was reboot my Chromecast to get the WatchESPN app to recognize it.

I have Chromecast but I also have DirecTV. No WatchESPN for me...

Why not just use an HDMI cable and hook your laptop directly into the TV?

But you still need a cable subscription with espn (and 4663 other channels I couldn't possibly care less about) in order to watch espn on chrome cast. I'm so ready for a la carte.

For me it's because I'm waiting it out to buy a laptop, plus mine runs a little hot when streaming HD videos. It's very convenient and easy to control the chromecast from your phone for such a small price. I just leave mine plugged into the TV and when I press "cast" from my phone my TV automatically switches to it.

Also frees up the laptop if you're doing work and want to have the game on the TV in the background.

It's just so simple. I have both a Roku and an AppleTV. Both do a great job streaming WatchESPN and various other services. You have a remote, a user friendly on screen menu, and the cost is so low. What Netflix is trying to do with its internet tv programming is what I envisioned for many other networks, like conference networks like the Acc to have their channels available on. I also thought that having a conference network available on Roku would be the future as well.

I just found out that WatchEspn is available on Roku. My son tells me that I would be able to watch any espn game if I have WatchEspn. Does anyone know if this is true? It sounds too good to be true to me.

Would a lot of people drop cable period if they could access ESPN channels some other way? Sure sounds like it.

You have to log in with your cable ISP credentials to use WatchESPN. They do thus to check whether you subscribe to the ESPN channel that your are trying to stream.

So, no cord cutting here.

ditto. You have to figure eventually ESPN will offer it that way and cut out the middle man, but it probably has to get to the point where so many people have already cut the cord that it hurts their cable revenue.

They may have to eventually, but for now they are blood brothers with Cable and Satellite providers. ESPN's willingness to tie its own availability to buying a minimum tier programming service gives cable and satellite providers leverage with customers.

Is AT&T or Verizon, or some other telco, your ISP? At a minimum, you should be able to use this to view ESPN3 games. That's what I'm using it for.

As for the Dish service, it is going to be limited to something between 2-5 million subscribers nationally. Dish is going to market it to the cord cutters who still want some form of TV service.

Chromecast seems to be getting more apps on board. In April, the MLB.TV app was upgraded to allow for casting from phones & tablets and along w/MLS Matchday, though that app I think goes away once MLS's new TV deal kicks in and ESPN3 becomes the carrier for all non-national MLS games.

You can already access ESPN channels other ways and for free.
