Larry Brown to the Lakers?
PTI- Had a section dedicated to Larry Brown.
GM went to UNC and Larry has a house there

I know he has said he will stay at SMU until daughter/(granddaughter?) graduated, but he has a history of building up and getting out.

Any word from SMU?

RE: Larry Brown to the Lakers?
I'm sure he'll talk to them, but he has said that he wants to stay at SMU to see his son and daughter graduate. He's also said that he's found that he prefers the college game to the NBA at this point in his career, as it allows him to teach the game and life to young men, and it has fewer games, and he "hates games."

Of course, if the Lakers offer and the offer makes sense ($$$), I'm sure he'd consider it. But I have a feeling that given all he has said, he'd rather pull an Ollie and use it for a raise than actually leave.

RE: Larry Brown to the Lakers?
for kevin ollie it might be extremely enticing but i dont think larry would even consider it

1) larry only has a few years left of coaching
2)the lakers are horrible as is
3) he has a contender at smu
4) he's already been an nba coach and already built a hall of fame resume there, he'd gain nothing gong back
5) the lakers are high maintenance and toxic if you arent wining right away

RE: Larry Brown to the Lakers?
I'd give Larry Brown another good 25 years in the coaching ranks based on past performances.

I see him retiring around 98 or 99.

You forgot one. . . Larry Brown & Kobe Bryant would mix as well as an open flame & gasoline.

Only coach Kobe has ever wanted to play for was Phil Jackson. Forgot how many coaches the Lakers had between the first time Phil left LA, and Phil's 2nd stint coaching the Lakers. Kobe's response was get me some players & coaches who can get me to the finals. Or, GMTFO of Los Angeles. After Phil's 2nd stint with the Lakers, Kobe didn't particularly want to play for either, Mike Brown or Mike D'Antoni

RE: Larry Brown to the Lakers?
Why would Larry leave SMU? I thought it was the best job he could get right now.

No kidding. SMU has already shown how good of a job it is offering all the resources he wants plus in a big time college basketball conference.

Larry Stay!!

not necessarily. . . If/when Larry decides to leave SMU. He will have left it as an attractive job for the next coach. . . Especially, if the $$$ men funding the SMU program like the job Larry did to improve the perception of SMU. They will keep the train rolling.

you know better than me....just using your pre-Larry Brown irrelevance as scale for my comment.

Which big commit is it?

Xavier transfer, Justin Martin. . . They're burning couches in West Virginia right now. Justin was suppose to visit WVU, but cancelled after the SMU visit.

RE: Larry Brown to the Lakers?
I just can't see how the man isn't ready to settle down and retire. It would really surprise me if he left given what everyone has said about his children, preferring college basketball, etc..

As long as SMU keeps the $$ train rolling, they should be able to land good coaches.

Might as well go ahead and make Kobe Bryant Lakers player-coach. . . Only coach he'll play for is Phil Jackson.
