Anyone here ever purchased a vehicle through Costco?
I always see cars there and the signs they say purchase through Costco, save money, haggling, etc.
I got a brochure from the store but I haven't investigated it yet.
Would appreciate any feedback if anyone has even gone through the process.

Would you buy food/household products from a car dealership?

If they had decent prices I would.

no, but I don't like buying cars from dealerships either,

It's a decent program if you know what you want and don't want to worry with haggling hassles. You still purchase through a dealership, but the prices are pre-set and a little easier process.

That's always been my problem. I kind of have an idea what I want, but until I'm in the market for a new car I don't even keep up with them, so it's a process of discovery when I'm actually shopping around for a new car. I find a lot that I'd love to own, but price or other factors may eliminate them from my list. I guess if you already know you want This Car with These Extras, it makes it much easier to bargain over price.

Costco doesn't sell cars itself. It just connects you with a dealer who gives you a preferred no-haggle price. Off-site sales are generally illegal in most states.
I can also recommend truecar.com....I've heard good things about it.
You can probably get a better price than either one by grinding a salesmen on the last day of the month, if you're so inclined.
Take this from a guy with some years in the car business.

Also, the savings depend on the brand and model.
Volume cars (silverados, civics, fusions) can always be bought at a good price.
If you want a Subaru, BMW, or VW don't expect great deals because those programs tend to force competition between dealers of the same marquee.

I went ahead and went through the motions and I basically ended up at the same dealership I had already visited. Swapping spit.

It's like the first time I ever visited a SAMs club. I thought to myself. Should Pirelli tires and Shrimp be on the same aisle?

No.
They just pitch x number of members to the auto dealers as possible traffic, and I guess enough of them do this to keep the program going, but I'm not going to get any better deal than if I walked in off the street.
It would be convenient to do the whole thing through Costco. But you can only put in a very generic description of what you want, while nothing beats going out to the lot and finding the perfect one for you.

RE: Anyone here ever purchased a vehicle through Costco?
We recently bought a new car, we went to the dealer Costco put us in contact with, they gave us a no hassle price, but I ended up going to a different dealer, did some research, and got a deal better than the prearranged Costco price. Cargurus.com is another awesome site for research. I would gather as much info as possible and know what you want and know how much it is before you go. Make them compete against each other, and don't be afraid to walk out. Make a game out of it! Try the Costco referred dealer once you know your model and price.
Good luck!

Thanks. It took me about fifteen minutes to realize that the Costco thing wasn't going to get a better deal than I could. I learned from the master, my Dad. He took great pleasure in torturing car salesmen. Back in the day, when you could buy a damn good car for $8-10K, he would write a check before he left the house and take Mom and I knew they would come home in a new car before the day was over. He might hit three or four dealerships, but someone would take that check.
