RE: US Open- MT's loss is UAB's gain
Just imagine. MTSU and UAB are playing in the last game of the season (201x), and the winner will be the East champion and go on to the championship game against UNT (see -- I got it right!). It comes down to the last play. MTSU has the ball on the UAB three yard line. If MTSU scores, they win the game. They run a sweep to the right -- and the running back crosses the goal line just inside the pylon. The Raiders score! Raiders win! Raiders win!
But wait. The MTSU right tackle is talking to the ref. We listen in. "Ref, you didn't see it, but I was holding on that last play. I have to tell you, because I just can't live with myself if we win by my cheating."
The ref pulls out his flag and throws it. The signal is offensive holding. The points come off the board. Time has run out! Blazers win! Blazers win! Blazers win!
Only in football!

That's one of the reasons I love golf, and one of the most frustrating things about playing in scrambles where there is blatant cheating. It's a sport based on honest self enforcement, yet so many hacks cheat to win a $50 gift certificate to the pro shop.
