Totally agree... And grossly pathetically underpaid.

I keep telling folks but they don't listen. Not only do we have good schools with good athletic departments but we have schools with legit fan bases and resources.

So was the old Big East...everyone ripped it despite being very competitive in all sports nationally.


Examples:
- West Virginia beat Oklahoma and Georgia in BCS games so it's not like UCF has done something nobody in the old BE never accomplished. plus Georgia and Oklahoma were considered HUGE upsets when they happened and these schools carry a bigger national reputation greater than Baylor. BTW! Not minimizing the Baylor win, but the Bears were vastly over-rated and got smacked by a very good UCF team that everyone underestimated.

- Louisville made at least one College World Series and was a nationally relevant program

- Multiple NCAA Men's and Woman's Hoops Championships. The old BIGEAST was to hoops as SEC is to college football.

- Plus many other accomplishments in our Olympic sports that fared well with any other BCS conference. If that conference would have stayed together with a few additions to get to 12 or even 16....it would have a lot of potential over the long haul.

The bottom line is that while this year's success is a nice surprise and exciting to watch.....we have seen this story before. If the system was fair we would get our shot....but do you really think the SEC and B1G want to play fair? John Swofford?

My biggest fear is that history repeats itself and we lose conference members piecemeal, as opposed to having the entire conference elevated to P6 status.

UConn and/or Cincy depart, we backfill with UMass and USM/Marshall or whoever is left at that point. And this continues in perpetuity - death by a thousand cuts.

Why do you think the P5 wants to box out those not in the "club". They're looking after their own and can't do anything about baseball and some extent, basketball. But they can cartel the football world and hold all of the cards. Basically it doesn't matter who we beat or accomplish. Our schools are good ol' boy members and that's that. The P5 is like an exclusive country club that no matter how good a person or family might be, if not invited through major connections, they'll never join.

Honestly, besides football, just where do the P5 conferences dominate?

Not basketball...

Not baseball...

...and the other olympic sports just don't matter.
They're just a collection of old stuffy schools with "history" that don't want to enlarge their "club".

Their new universe centers around football - and that's why they're trying to game the system so no one else ever has a chance.

That is exactly what will happen. The odds that the conference as a whole will be invited to the big boy table are extremely low.

If any schools rise in value, they will get picked off, just like what happened to the Big East. There is no reason to think otherwise.

The GoRs are bad news for us, because they close off one avenue of promotion, the most common one, which was as backfill after a P5 on P5 raid. With GoRs, that is far less likely, meaning the only promotions will likely be "proactive", like when the B1G invited Rutgers.

To get a proactive invite, you really need to bring big value-added to the table to merit it. And that is harder to do.

You are exactly right! This is exactly the reason why they have created the monopoly in college football. The bowl system, the BCS, now the non-inclusive "playoff" (of which only their schools can qualify) are all designed to keep schools like we see moving on in baseball out.

If this were football there would be no Houston, no College of Charleston, no Kennesaw St beating Alabama, no UC Irvine Anteaters (great nickname), no Long Beach St Dirtbags (awesome nickname), and so on.

College Football is great but it is also at Total Joke when it comes to fairness and a level playing field. Until the schools outside of the P5 sue or get Congress involved it will not change and that is a real shame.

I can think of one reason it won't happen.

Fans are already getting frustrated with scheduling in 14 team conferences. It would just get worse with 16 teams. The PAC seems to have no desire to grow beyond 12. So, unless the B12 grows, there's no room for them to pick off AAC schools.
