I watched both and it really made me wonder why the general public would have such a low opinion of college athletes.

The Heisman Trophy Presentation drew a 2.0 overnight rating on ESPN Saturday night, down 26% from last year (2.7), down 36% from 2012 (3.1), and the lowest overnight for the event since at least 2008.
-- smw

Go figure: A greater percentage of homes in Birmingham, Ala. (4.7 percent) watched The U: Part 2 on ESPN Saturday night than in Miami-Fort Lauderdale (3.3). Jacksonville ranked third among metered markets with a 3.0, with Greensboro fourth and Las Vegas fifth…

ESPN’s first airing of The U: Part 2 was seen by 1.87 million viewers on Saturday, compared with 2.3 million for the debut of the first U documentary in 2009.
-- Miami Herald

doesn't take into account the poor lead-in, dvr's popularity or untold millions who watched it afterwards on ESPN endless loop through monday ...
if twitter is any indication -- 40,000+ tweets effusive with praise ...
then U2 was a smash hit ...

RE: "The U: The Sequel"
Wait, Miami didn't even lead the country in viewership % for its own documentary? Is anybody actually surprised by that? And the debut was down 20% from the first documentary?

"What if I told you..." a once dominant program has fallen so far that all it has left is the hyping of documentaries highlighting events that took place 10-30 years ago?

RE: "The U: The Sequel"
As I said earlier in this thread, I thought that "The U: Part I" sucked so I had no interest in watching it's sequel.

I think Miami is one of the most interesting stories in the history of college athletics. It has lots of low points but it also has some remarkable high points. Further, I consider the Hurricanes to be the greatest program of my lifetime. For a little, relatively modest school like that to basically take over college football for the better part of two decades was amazing.

However, the first one missed all kinds of opportunities to tell that story warts and all and instead degenerated into what was tantamount to a recruiting video for the worst elements of the school. It was basically like, "Hey, y'all don't you guys remember when we cheated our balls off but won a lot of games? Do you remember how all those kids used to get in all kinds of trouble - some of that very serious - but we ignored it and won a lot of games? Wasn't that fun?"

That is pretty boring to me.

I had no interest in seeing the second one because I figured out what that fanboy director was all about. He wasn't interested in telling a story, he was interested in propagandizing for his alma mater.

I suppose that's cool if you are a Miami fan or alum but for the rest of us, what is the value in that?

Yup. Definitely all um has to hang its hat on nowadays. A lot of past nfl success for sure. Just 5 guys taken in the last two drafts though. For reference, uconn has had 7. To add, schools like ucf, buffalo, northern illinois, central michigan, memphis, usf, fresno and delaware have all had 1st rounders more recently than UM. Last time you had one was 2008.

Yet you have never had a season with more than 5 ACC wins.

"The U" was about the rise & fall of a small, private, hapless school embracing a foreign culture out of sheer desperation and the accompanying stress that went along all the while revolutionizing a pedestrian sport through speed, flamboyance & the forward pass ...

Miami has great history and that is cool.

What they REALLY need now (and the ACC needs), is a recommitted MIami program that is a threat to win championships again.

This won't just come from firing Golden and hoping for a miracle hire. They badly need a committed admin, fans in the seats, larger booster group, improved facilities, and better overall infrastructure to compete with SEC like programs that are dominating national title races now.

The days of schools, with 1/2 the resources of Bama, Texas, Ohio State, Auburn, etc, winning national titles are over.

Schools like Michigan our Florida won't be down long because they have the money, facilities, infrastructure to get back to the top rather quickly. Does Miami?
