Is Colorado now a chaotic hellhole with legal MJ? Short answer: no
Quote:Now, official figures released by the Department of Revenue (i) show that, in the first 3 months, sales of recreational marijuana alone have in fact raised in excess of $7.3 million in taxes. When income from medicinal sales tax and licences is included that figure rises further to $12.6 million. The fact is that in the new legalized recreational business in both January and February, more than $14 million was sold each month. March exceeded this by claiming almost $19 million in sales, and the trend is continuing to rise. From those sales figures, there has been a corresponding rise in sales taxes; January generated $1.4 million , February brought in $1.43 million and the most recent figures for March showed it to be $1.898 million. This destroys the initial argument by opponents who claimed that there would be an initial boost from ‘new toy’ syndrome but that interest would soon plummet.

In addition, many said there would be an increase in violent crime in the state as a result of ‘trafficking’ and associated crimes. This has been far from reality – overall crime has actually fallen slightly in Denver (ii)...

...Already, plans have been passed to make good use of some of this extra income: lawmakers have just approved a plan to spend this new tax windfall from marijuana, mostly on child drug use prevention and outreach. The $33 million plan includes money for more school nurses and public education on using marijuana responsibly.

define "chaotic hellhole". there have been volumes of unintended consequences and buyer's remorse.

the fact that the place hasn't burned to the ground in three months has never been the test for failure.

If coloradan voters want legalized pot, and this decision affects no other states, then why should it be an issue for anyone else.?

Actually Coloradans voted for more taxation.
That $7.3 million came out of their own pockets.

It is far too early to tell what negative effects, if any, this experiment will yield.

it is affecting other states. pot is still illegal in all of the states surrounding CO, and various authorities in adjacent counties report that drug crime has increased dramatically.

That wouldn't be happening if they would simply legalize it.

Yes and no. That's tax revenue they wouldn't have seen otherwise, it would've been in a drug dealer's pocket if it weren't legal.

Oh that's just rich. Liberals are so ridiculous there aren't even words for it.

Bottom line: There have been scores of negative outcomes as a result of Colorado legalizing weed and three months is not even close to enough time to to gauge whether this is a success or not.

Why would crime go up in a neighboring state as a result of Colorado legalizing marijuana?

Because people from neighboring states buy pot in Colorado and take it back to their state where they get busted.

. . . and people are illegally growing pot in other states and transporting it (again, illegally) to colorado in order to sell it legally.

crime would disappear altogether if we would only legalize everything that is currently illegal.

Have they? The news stories have certainly skyrocketed, but have the actual incidents? Honest question; I don't know the answer. Do you have stats?
