Well that helps explain why Lemond went 2. He was probably getting Saturday off regardless and that helps keep everyone else fresh for today.

Let's hope it's just the flu (though he was at the game and in unis last night) or some minor ailment.

BTW, Geoff Perrott was at the game in a wheel chair and cast on his knee, having just had surgery on it....but he appeared to be in good spirits and looking good.

Wayne was trying to get McCarthy up when we blew the game open in the 8th, but the double play ruined that plan.

McCarthy didn't get up until late in the B8. It looked like the plan was to run Zech back out if the lead was <3 and when it grew McCarthy got up but as you noted the DP (on a mental mistake by Connor) didn't allow enough time to get him ready. With Ditman unavailable I didn't have a problem with the strategy as opposed to ESPN based on comments fro OCOwl.

As most agree the long half inning seem to hurt the GM starter but I also think the long half inning helped Zech.

Yeah, i guess once zech got back out there and got his 8 warmups, it was a moot point to try to save a few of his bullets for another day.

Bottomline-- Zech wasn't going to throw two days in a row regardless (post-injury), and pitching that 2nd inning won't affect his availability and readiness to go again on Sunday. Today it's Trevor Tekyl time!

A little note from @RiceOwlsBSB yesterday, it sounds like key arm Matt Ditman is very much TBD the rest of the weekend. A non-arm injury.

The "good" news, at least, is it's non-arm related.

Yeah, never good for a key player to be hurt, but at least it isn't that right arm. Hopefully a couple extra days off will help.

McDonald and whoever were questioning whether he'd be able to go Sunday after going 35 pitches or so. It doesn't seem like the extra 10 pitches would keep him out an extra day, but they seemed to assume he'd be available today if he just pitched one inning.

I just hope it's not skateboard-related...

So any word on this injury? JD just tweeted he is unavailable Sunday. Any chance he pitches Monday if we can somehow get there?

Sadly, after tonight, I don't think it matters much. Hope he's back next year!

FWIW, here's a WebMD article that goes into the cause, treatment, recovery and long-term outlook of Dodger catcher Todd Huntdey's intercostal injury, which happened when he was running the bases in 2000.

Would make sense for a pitcher. Just really crappy timing. Injury bug finally caught up to us.
