Best venue in the MAC?
I was perusing the various college football preview magazines that have come out so far (waiting for Phil Steele's, the only one worth buying IMO), and in Sporting News' magazine they did a little list of the "best ofs" in the MAC. There was best QB, best coach, etc etc....when they got to best venue, they had this to say "Western Michigan: the best venue to watch a college football game, bar none."

So, we've got that going for us. 02-13-banana

It is a good situation, good view lines, can be loud and fun when things are going well.

I'm not sure they've been there since the new traditions went in. I actually think the DJ can work if they can get it fit in smoothly somehow.

For me, the horse running onto the field is way cool. Used to love the A-10's floating over on vets day as well.

Afternoon sun can be problematic in the early fall.

I agree with all of that. Love the horse leading the team onto the field.

Mixed feelings about the renovations to the stadium. The new turf looks great, the newly painted walls are sharp....just wish they left the RTB stuff in the locker room. But that dead horse has been beaten a million times already.

Is this because there is always plenty of extra room to spread out? Since its generally half full.

True for every MAC venue.

I hear instead of buying single seats you can just walk up to the ticket office and purchase an entire section for about the same price.

I dare anyone in the mac to come and spend a Saturday with me from tailgate to sitting in the press box and at the very least not walk away impressed.

Waldo is a great stadium-venue.

Only problem is parking-getting to it.

We have this discussion way more often than the venues change.

I love the recent field renovations. Love the colors; even love the ghost bronco.

I love being at Waldo on game day. Lots of love.

The setting at Waldo is fantastic....The stadium on the hill, tree lined, great views, looking at the old dorms up top make Waldo as picturesque as anything in the MAC...

However, not as problematic as the freezing rain of late fall.

Well, this simply can't be true. According to the slappies the Cinder Block in the middle of a cornfield is the top venue.

Quote:Facilities- CMU: Kelly/Shorts Stadium; largest on campus stadium in the MAC, voted both the finest football facility in the MAC and the best game day atmosphere in the MAC by The Sporting News. wmu: where's waldo: high school like wooden bleachers, terrible sun angles (east/west orientation), laughable press box, decrepit and old.

Smelly Shorts and the amazing Tool Shed locker room
Lest we not forget the 4 tent suites they put in this year 03-lmfao

Waldo Stadium's tool shed
Unfortunately our 25 suites are permanent and can't be re-purposed as camping gear.

Well, Chimps do have an underground tunnel to their gym.

Maybe they should change nickname-mascot to "Gophers" or since Minnesota has that one, "Groundhogs." Or "Moles."

Don't make fun of the "tent suites," CD2.

Those are for the Duck Dynasty wannabes from Isabella, Osceola, and Mecosta that stagger in to keep their buzz going and hit on the Freshman Chimpettes.

RE: Best venue in the MAC?
Gentlemen,
Sorry to disagree with the best venue, because Waldo has no continuity. It is four different blocks that look out of proportion to one another, and aren't really connected. I've visited many times and it's okay, but I wouldn't place it as the best venue.
