Pastner on the assistant hire --- 'can only talk in general terms' 'can't talk about recruits OR family' -- 'but will get the right person in there.' 'you have to have good players on the floor'
Pastner -- 'Q:in the abstract only - would you hire to get players' -- 'a major part of my contract is recruiting' --- 'hire must know the game' -- 'big part of the requirement of the coaching job is getting players'
Liked Pastner's responses to Calkins question about whether Josh would hire to get players. Pastner could have said 'no' but instead talked about the responsibilities of all the coaches to bring in good players.
Said that Woodson, Iverson and Wilson all made commitments to change this summer. Said Wilson hasn't worked as hard as he should since he's been here and that Wilson agreed and said that he felt "entitled" when he got here. Also says you can't change 18 years of bad habits in one year as far as Dom and Kuran go, but they are really working hard at changing. Mentioned that at the beginning of last season, he would have to hold Iverson out of practice for blowing off a class. Last semester he got at 3.0. Dom is working on self control in multiple areas.

The interesting thing to me was the fact that Iverson wasn't going to class at times and so he wasn't allowed to practice which resulted in him not playing much. We had quite a few people here blast Josh for not getting Kuran in games but now that we know the rest of the story its making sense why he wasn't seeing PT

I commend Pastner for his commitment to academics and life lessons.

They would have found something else to blast him for. If we took a poll, asking 'should Pastner have played Iverson even if he wasn't going to class?', I'll guarantee you a lot of people would answer 'yes.' It's pathetic, but I think it's true.

I agree with you Bill. If you don't go to class, you can't play. A lot of us, myself squarely included, think we know everything and I couldn't understand why Iverson wasn't getting at least SOME minutes. But if he wasn't going to class, he deserved the bench time.

I admit even I was wondering what was going on, it's good to know. Some lessons are harder to learn than others, I hope he's learned his.
