MBA programs....
Has anyone done the MBA program at the University of Memphis?

I've started looking at programs and I've heard mixed reviews about Fogelman's MBA programs.

Note: I was an honors business student and MILE graduate, so I'm familiar with many of the graduate profs.

Did you get your undergrad from Memphis? The first thing I'd recommend and have seen said many different places, is to get your MBA from a different school than your undergrad. I wasn't really able to do that being local and working full time, but wish I could have. That's not a slight to the program at all, it's just that a difference school would give a different foundation and different view points on somethings. A lot of what I did in the MBA program was just an extension of the undergrad learning. Other places may look at it from a totally different approach.

One really good program Fogelman offers is the Customer Driven MBA program if you aren't currently working and are interested. It's competitive, as you apply and also go through interviews with prospective companies. These companies are sponsoring the MBA students they choose. Basically tuition is covered as well as a small yearly salary (~10 hours a week during school and ~40 during summer). After graduation you go straight to work for that company full time if you've passed all their requirements as well. Last I heard it was a 2-year commitment after graduation, which isn't shabby at all.

Running off to a meeting, but feel free to post any specific questions and I'll answer as best I can.

I know two people that received their Undergrad, MBA and JD from the same school that work in the same field both are doing amazingly well ... the one that graduated from Fogleman twice and Cecil C Humpreys is doing the best ... 03-idea

RE: MBA programs....
I asked my wife about this last night since she is in education and it seems like she was in school for 20 years. She has a masters from Ole Miss, another masters from Alabama and in the conversation she reminded me that she has over 20 hours toward a doctorate among Southern Miss, Alabama, Ole Miss and Memphis.

She thought it would depend on your field (finance, medicine, engineering or architecture) if your masters was from a different place than your undergrad.

My daughter graduated from Memphis in 2008 and the dean of her college (who passed away that year) wanted her to immediately get her masters. She was ready to start a family but she is considering it now.

RE: MBA programs....
Undergraduate degrees have become fairly ubiquitous....

I know folks who have borrowed $80,000-$250,000 to go to grad school. That's crazy given the current climate. I work full-time, but many kids don't want to. They're scared of actually working for a living so they keep going to school.
