Where else can either one get a winnable game with the potential to sell out with minimal travel, and do it in all sports? Doesn't exist.

And as Owl69 (and others) have pointed out before, this shouldn't just be about football. It should be about all sports, just taking the rivalry that much further. There is more to the athletic departments than just the football team.

Heck, why shouldn't the best intramural teams at each school possibly play off against each other? Football/powerderpuff, basketball, softball, etc. Develop that linkage and rivalry.

Because, although we cannot survive without them, they clearly don't need us. Haven't you been paying attention? I mean, we should be so lucky as to get a 2 or 3 for 1

This is it. There's nothing but good that could come from fostering the rivalry with one another.

RE: Football Scheduling News
OK, this statement just made my jaw drop, essentially name dropping Rice and Michigan football in the same sentence as a possible (though not likely) threat to Notre Dame. Like the threat is equivalent.

Quote:This one starts a tough three-game stretch (Stanford, North Carolina, at Florida State) that should determine whether the Fighting Irish belong in the playoff conversation. Rice and Michigan won’t be pushovers, but Notre Dame should be able to start 4-0.

This is from Andy Staples at SI.com. Under the October 4 entry in the list.

Is this an indication of how far Rice has risen in the eyes of some, how far Michigan has fallen, or maybe a little of both? I know the Vegas odds don't give high hopes.

Definitely a little bit of both, but I definitely think it is mostly how we have risen in the eyes of many.

Any time you can win a conference, you will get a little bit of notice. Couple that with a pretty strong showing against A&M last season, on national TV, and the prognosticators of the college football world appear to have realized that we aren't the same door mat that we have recently been. Sure, we are still not favored to win, but few teams would be against ND this year.

Especially since Purdue and Syracuse are ND's other opponents in September, it's kinda amazing to think of the pecking/threat order now puts Rice above those two. (Though we certainly "know" Rice is better than Purdue, with recent results.)

Let's maintain this momentum, Mr. Bailiff.

Speaking of ND, they just tapped Everett Gholson to start at QB. (He was the starter in 2012 when they made the NCG, but missed all of last season with an academic suspension):
