Smart move. Propose something you know will never happen and you look like the good guy that wants to stop the slaughter of innocent cupcakes. Meanwhile, one of the Savannah States of the world always finds its way onto your schedule as a tuneup for the Iron Bowl. I like it.

There's nothing new here. He said the same thing last year.

Florida HC Muschamp is also now saying he doesn't want to play FCS Schools anymore:

DESTIN, Fla. -- Florida coach Will Muschamp wants to avoid playing teams from the Football Championship Subdivision.

And not because the Gators lost to lower-division Georgia Southern last year.

Speaking at the Southeastern Conference's annual spring meetings Tuesday, Muschamp said, "We're probably going to move forward without playing FCS opponents."

Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley and several SEC coaches, though, aren't quite ready to close the door on scheduling lower-division teams.

Foley says, "In a perfect world, you play all D-1 schools. But also you have to have 12 opponents."

I wish they would move to this type of scheduling but it's unlikely.

Let me translate. Ideally, we would like to have 12 FBS cupcakes, all at home---but that's very difficult to do being in a conference and all.

The SEC head coaches' comedy hour gets even better:

Mark Richt says he wants to keep playing FCS teams -- but not because he wants easy games on his schedule, he just wants to help the little guys with their budgets! 03-lmfao

Quote:Georgia coach Mark Richt supports playing FCS teams, citing his work as a member of the American Football Coaches Association board of trustees and his interaction with FCS coaches.

“What I'm learning is if we as BCS teams -- or whatever you want to call us these days -- if we don't have those games with the FCS schools, a lot of them have a very difficult time making their budgets,” Richt said. “I think college football is too important at all levels to hurt them by setting criteria that would not allow you to play them.”

I'm sure Nick Saban would love to see power 5 vs. power 5 only. He's greatly implied/stated he'd like to change the scheduling format.

What's got to be remember in this (just like with realignment) is that the coaches aren't the decision makers here. Saban would probably be fine with 6 home games and 6 road games against all power 5 conferences provided everyone else did. The AD probably would not (financial reasons).

Alabama is known for having a light out of conference schedule.
Four games they could have a all P5 schedule its only four games. I wonder if their schedule has ever been all BCS or current P5 doubt it.

How many teams have ever had an "all P5" football schedule?

USC has done it a few times. The last two times for them were 2011 (non-con schedule: Minnesota/Syracuse/Notre Dame) and 2008 (Virginia/Ohio State/Notre Dame).

I don't expect any change, either in the schedule or the half-empty "sellouts" in BDS.

Okay Saban....Enjoy your 6 game home schedule. You aren't going to get to buy a home game with a P5 team.

They're so concern over those cupcake games, I mean FCS teams, I would ALMOST be force to give the SEC "The Caring Of The Year Award". 03-lmfao

RE: Nick Saban purposing P5 vs, P5 ONLY....
So, we have SEC coaches talking about shutting out FCS teams while at the same time we have them talking P5 vs P5 and we have the SEC deciding to not expand their in conference schedule. That means one or both of two things. First, obviously more competition would need to be had between the Major Conferences some how. Secondly, there are going to need to be some "lesser" programs that are considered top level so that those OOC games can be filled up.

Queue up that 20 team Gatekeeper conference that gets to have all the benefits of being in the top division and probably reaps in the benefits of those other Major conferences needing to schedule them much more so in the future than they do now.

2014 Alabama Non-Conference Schedule:
West Virginia @Georgia Dome
FAU @Alabama
USM @Alabama
Western Carolina @Alabama (Homecoming)

I believe Alabama, in addition to gate receipts, makes a bunch off parking too. An Alabama fan posted that....I think???

Nick should start working on his own AD. Alabama not only schedules FCS schools, they schedule schools like Georgia State in its very 1st year of football.

But talk is cheap. If Florida stops scheduling FCS games, that will make 13 FCS games for the SEC with a maximum of 14 possible ... including Saban's Bama playing an FCS school every year, likely unless and until playing an FCS school costs an SEC school a CFP spot.
