Football 101
Apparently people think a Football 101 for women is condescending??

http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/sports/UC...FB_CHBrand

Funny that we have done this for a few years 60 miles west of NBC but it takes a school 14 hours away to bring it to light.

My wife would attend this NIU event if we did not live out of state. She does not feel it is condescending at all.

It's a bit of a dinosaur title. They're going for cute and landing on sounding like the old guy at the office who calls professionals "little lady". (unless you call a similar event for general audiences Football 101)

Just call it the women's football seminar or something

It should just be called Football 101. Let the for women part be implied, just like Home Economics has a gender-free title, but you know who it is for.

I suppose the old TV show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy was condescending too, as it implied that heterosexual men know nothing about interior decorating or how to dress properly.

Home Economics is no more either...its now FACS...(Family and Consumer Sciences...)...Took me a while to find that one out. and men now take that too...

RE: Football 101
Okay, being an actual female & having attended this event I probably have the best take on this wouldn't you agree?

I am not offended by the name Football 101 at all. None of the ladies in attendance were either. It is not in any way a seminar so it should not be called that.
It is what it is...basic football info & a chance to meet the coaches & players & other lady NIU football fans & Coaches, wives, mothers, & sisters. A tour of the Yordon Center & some drinks & hors d'oeuvres. Going out on the field with the players & "running some basic plays". It is the best time I have had in years.

A whole event that caters strictly to the gals even down to the rhinestone studded Huskie football helmet that is the centerpiece on the table.

It is an AWESOME fun time and I highly recommend it!
