I think this is made possible by having camera crews at all locations. They need each location represented so they can do "whip around" coverage.

They did used to televise all of 2, but back then they didn't stream the others, thus they only had two crews in the entire country working baseball. Streaming of all 16 started last year or year before. As 13th said, since their streaming requires them to send camera/commentary crews to all locations (in order to protect their brand by controlling the production quality for their streaming product), they can pick and choose individual games for TV rather than showing an entire regional, and can cut in and out on TV as necessary to show critical game situations.

Though some of their commentators may leave something to be desired, it really is a pretty nice product. For those with access to ESPN3 (sorry Canadian), it's better than the old situation where you hoped that the regional you ended up in was offering free streaming and never knew which team's announcer you were going to get.

RE: Houston Regional Info
The ESPN3 format is a television caliber production - it's how they now distribute a large chunk of their college sports inventory (including football and basketball). No comparison to the school-produced broadcasts (no offense intended to anyone from the athletic department).

I'm not a big fan of the Worldwide Leader (except for Fly by Night, of course) ... but this is a massive upgrade in college baseball coverage (last year was first year of this broadcast format).

Perhaps an unrelated question, but we need to get a new cable provider ... can anyone recommend which of DirectTv, Dish Network, or Verizon provides better coverage for Rice athletics? I saw that CBS Sports was now in HD on Verizon, but what about football games, etc., that are covered by Comcast? Noting the pending acquisition of DTV by AT&T, does that open or close possibilities? I'm obviously on a pretty short timeline at this stage for baseball regionals and the world cup...

Comcast would probably be your best bet for Rice events, but I wonder if they will be around for the long haul. I've been a DirecTV subscriber off and on for 15 years. I'm not sure what the AT&T deal will do to the programming but to be honest, I'm at the point where I wonder if I'd be better off just getting a device like the Amazon Fire to watch occasional TV shows and then watching the bulk of my sports online.

No channel 11201 on DirecTV, perhaps that is a Dish channel.

Sounds like you need to call the AD's office and ask these questions.

Ack. I'd feel a bit silly asking for advice on what cable company to go with when they're prepping for the regional... especially one with the two biggest schools in the state.

Just to clarify ... CSN Houston still not available on DirecTV.

So, for now, would think that a full Comcast package is your best option.

Of course ... who knows if either a) DirecTV/Comcast reach a carrier agreement, or b) CSN Houston goes away.

Just guessing here but it would seem a good bet that the AT&T / DirecTV deal has been in the works awhile. DirecTV hasn't been adding programming. So currently DirecTV lacks:

CSN Houston
LHN
PAC-10 Network
SEC Network

RE: Houston Regional Info
DirecTV has clearly drawn a line in the sand re: the outbreak of recent sports channel launches - but note that the AT&T merger is contingent on them reaching agreement to extend the NFL Sunday Ticket deal. So - sports will remains a focus.

Yes, the Sportsnet LA (Dodgers) channel is a big story out here right now - but other providers have lined up behind DirecTV in saying no to TWC on that one.

The Pac 12 Network hold out remains an outlier. I have to think a deal will get done to carry the SEC Network from inception. I had forgot that LHN still exists.

We're certainly going to be testing Reckling's new drainage this week. Another round of very heavy t-storms passing through town right now (woke me up at 4 am). Most of Houston is already at 3-4 inches of rain in two days and it will easily be 5-6 inches after this cell is done. More rain to come later today and probably the rest of the week.

Guy, that preview linked above has misinformation all over it, particularly regarding George Mason. I'd ignore entirely.
