The Road to Omaha
We know that Rice has been selected to host one of the regional playoffs. The questions remaining are: will ODU will be selected and if so, where will the Monarchs play?

Three of the prognosticators have published their very latest updated brackets. All have ODU in the regional playoffs, but in three different locations. With apologies to paintedblue for stealing part of this from him:

Chasing Omaha has ODU as the 3 seed in the Tallahassee Region along with FSU (1), Alabama (2), and Jacksonville St. (4).

http://www.chasingomaha.com/college-base...tions.html

College Baseball Central has ODU as the 3 seed in the Miami Regional along with Miami (1), Alabama (2), and Bucknell (4).

http://collegebaseballcentral.com/ncaa-r...seed/6399/

College Sports Madness has ODU as the No. 3 seed in Columbia with South Carolina (1), Maryland (2) and Campbell (4).

Bet ODU goes to the Wahoos. Knowing how little I've followed this year with our team being mediocre, they may not even be hosting though.

Rice fans eagerly awaiting who gets sent to Reckling as 2 and 3 seeds. Some publications speculating Texas, with Texas A&M also in the mix. And maybe Houston, who got crowded out of hosting despite a deserving season? Any of these options (plus Texas Tech?) would make for epic SWC-remembered games.

Both Kendall Rogers at PG and Aaron Fitt at Baseball America have ODU in as a 3 at Virginia:

Heck of a good question that I forgot to include. Being an old SWC fan, I think a Rice, Texas A&M, Texas, Texas Tech regional would be more than awesome.

I believe the committee avoids placing conferencemates in the same regional, so it would be either UT or Tech. You've got to think that a Rice-UT-A&M regional would be appealing for ESPN...

So an all SWC regional could still be created with Rice, Texas, A&M, and Houston.

Houston and Texas should probably both be 2 seeds, so they won't be in the same regional. Houston as the 2 in the TCU or Okie St. regionals could happen, then Texas to the Rice regional could happen. Not sure if A&M is even a lock.....42 rpi, 14-16 in conference, losing road record, a 142 non conference SOS......bubble seems tight...I think there may be other bubble teams with better metrics than that....

Not a 4 seed in that bunch.

Thinking it might be either Rice-Texas-Tex A&M-4 seed or

Rice-Houston-A&M-4 seed.

Winner. A10-champ George Mason is your 4 seed.

The four teams at Columbia:

Host South Carolina
Old Dominion
Maryland
Campbell

Also, nice to note that the Monarchs were not one of the last four in.

I certainly hope we are both there, but if we are, we would not meet until the Championship series, as we are in different brackets.

RE: The Road to Omaha
Congrats ODU.

BTW, at the risk of reopening an old issue, excluding a couple of conference champs nearly everyone in the 40's RPI got an at-large in the tournament including UC Irvine, who lost six straight to close the season getting swept by Fullerton and the Dirt Bags. I didn't look at everyone but it looks like Clemson was the lowest rated RPI on first glance at 49, so no 50's or 60's and the Tigers got in over UCF and Mercer as the only other two in the 40's to not get in.

UCF probably has reason to complain getting left out as the #2 regular season team in the AAC.

Congratulations to Rice and ODU. I hope you both make some noise in the tournament. USC is a tough place to play. Charlotte was sent there several years back. We had had one of our better teams that year. Eliminated NC State but the Gamecocks were too much to handle.

I wish ODU didn't steal our Head Coach, haha, he is a heck of a coach and we had great sucess while he was at WKU...Now we have Mister .500 as head coach who was an assistant under Finwood...Our baseball team has been really stagnant and average last 3 seasons and will probably get worse next season (have a lot of seniors on this years past team)...Congrats though ODU, hope you are able to keep Finwood...
