Yeah, our road to Omaha turned out to be a dead end alley.

But at least we were in the playoffs!

RE: The Road to Omaha
Any of you guys see the awful call made in the 22-inning TCU/Sam Houston game?

SH had won the game when TCU tried to turn two with the bases loaded. The runner on first slid into the bag and took out the second baseman but the umpire called interference. Awful. Just a terrible call. Cost em the game. TCU scored the next inning and won.

Quote:Force-Play-Slide Rule
SECTION 4. The intent of the force-play-slide rule is to ensure the safety of all players. This is a safety and an interference rule. Whether the defense could have completed the double play has no bearing on the applicability of this rule. This rule pertains to a force-play situation at any base, regardless of the number of outs.

a. On any force play, the runner must slide on the ground before the base and in a direct line between the two bases. It is permissible for the slider’s momentum to carry him through the base in the baseline extended (see diagram).
Exception—A runner need not slide directly into a base as long as the runner slides or runs in a direction away from the fielder to avoid making contact or altering the play of the fielder. Interference shall not be called.
(1) “On the ground” means either a head-first slide or a slide with one leg and buttock on the ground before the base.
(2) “Directly into a base” means the runner’s entire body (feet, legs, trunk and arms) must stay in a straight line between the bases.

b. Contact with a fielder is legal and interference shall not be called if the runner makes a legal slide directly to the base and in the baseline extended (see diagram).

Correct call.. you cant hit the player in the air with your slide. There is no choice on that.. you got to make the call.

Lead runner was already out at the time of the interference. There is not obstruction call. Hit him in the air, so there is no reason to use 8.4b and he slid late..

TCU also got ridiculously lucky in the bottom of the 9th when the threw the ball away down the RF line; ball got stuck in the tarp and the umps held the runners.

are there any requirements to host a regional other than being one of the top 16 teams?

Rice, I was hoping to see you guys waving the conference flag in Omaha. At least now I can root for the Aggies to send the teasips (that's Texas for those with no SWC backgroud) home tonight. Here's to both Rice and ODU doing it again with some better results next year.

04-cheers

He slide directly into the bag. It's very close but his butt looks on the ground to me looking at the video before he hits the bag or makes contact with the fielder.

As a former middle infielder its your job to avoid the runner particularly if the runner slides directly into the base. He could not have been more directly into the base than he was.

Thus concludes an absolutely craptastic year for C-USA athletics.

Congrats to the Cajuns, though.

Yep-- our teams didn't do much in the postseason, did they ? NIT & WNIT maybe....

MT's post-season was so bad it put a damper on the entire season (in several sports).

Two teams in the final eight of the NIT the highlight.
