Dallas is also one of the largest media markets in the nation. The conference lost a school from Texas based near Houston, it only made sense to add one in another major Texas media market. TCU had experienced multiple 10 plus win seasons and had played in and won BCS bowls including over the Big Ten champion Wisconsin in the Rose just before joining the Big 12. The school has a solid academic reputation.

Makes no sense to pretend they were not a great addition just because they've experienced a down year or two as everyone does from time to time. Their baseball program just won the conference championship. They have a basically new and very nice stadium. I'm sure many questioning their addition are just wishing their school of choice was admitted instead. Based on all the plusses TCU had coming into the conference however, it was a slam dunk choice.

Besides that, the Big 12 existing members added $5 million plus to their coffers each year after the additions of TCU and WVU--even the biggest haters can't argue with that.
Sure we can... I do not hate TCU, but as to your comment regarding Dallas markets and recruiting. how many Dallas kids stay at TCU? It is a great recruiting ground for Texas and OU...

Texas and OU are in the conference and were of course when TCU was added. I'm certain over the years TCU has pulled in plenty of good recruits from that area--and being located there in one of the top conferences should only make that situation better over time--the recruiting however isn't just about TCU its about the entire conference getting games and exposure in that huge market with so many top notch recruits.

When conferences add schools they look at lots of factors and when you look at all the points TCU hit at the time they were added to the Big 12 conference you'd be hard pressed to find anyone with better credentials. It's unfortunate they've dropped off against the stiff competition but based on the last couple of decades they've had and where they are located, it probably isn't going to be a permanent situation.
My point was that Dallas is a Big XII market with or without TCU.

True. But for its entire modern era---there has only been ONE power conference in Texas. Now there are two. It wasn't a bad idea to replace the lost Texas team with another Texas team in order to keep the Big-12 presence in Texas at 4.
And WVU is paying a terrible price for Texas' best interests... what's new. 05-stirthepot

if Hous market was hurt with SEC taking Tex A&M

Dallas was locked up, how did TCU benefit B-12

4 Texas Schools is 40% of the Big12, 2 Oklahoma schools are 20% of the Big12, 2 Kansas Schools are another 20% of the Big12. Thats 80% of the Big12 with in hours of each other. Iowa much closer to Kansas Than WVU is to the nearest competitor state. That is a regional conference in anyone's book. You can't make it any other way without adding 4 more from the East to fill in with WVU. The only options are AAC schools like UCF, USF, UC, UConn or ECU. You won't be adding anyone from the ACC, SEC or B1G.

BYU shouldn't be the only one calling the Big 12, Colorado State, New Mexico, Wyoming should too. BYU needs some of their former conference appointments to join them too.

Northern Division
Brigham Young
Colorado State
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
West Virginia
Wyoming

Southern Division
Baylor
New Mexico
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas
Texas Christian
Texas Tech

Trade Wyoming for either Cincinnati, UCF, UNLV or Memphis .
The four additions get a half share for six to eight years.

It would make more sense for the Big 12 if BYU joined for football only, and Cincinnati joined for all sports. As long as the Big 12 has West Virginia, there won't be a full member in the Mountain Time Zone.

I doubt the Big 12 will expand until they are forced to do so. With that in mind, I'll remind everyone that the Big 12 also owns the Name, "Big 16". It's also been put out on twitter that if the Big 12 does expand, it's headed east.

After watching this past two years of realignment, I can honestly say, I haven't a clue as to what's going to happen next. 07-coffee3

B12 won't expand until next TV deal is close at hand. No reason for them to do anything right now. They are rolling in $$$.

All gang schools should be keeping in touch with B12. esp the top 15 or so. Cincy, Uconn, Byu, UCF, USF, Memphis, Houston, Ecu, Boise, and a few more.
