That decision not only back fired this year it was detrimental to the development of King, Iverson, and Wilson which will likely cost us some next year.

Logically, if you look at next season it's a rebuilding year and so we should expect 4-5 conference losses along with 4-5 ooc losses. This will give us roughly the same record we had this year and probably an 8-10 seed in the tournament. The only problem here is that this is year 6 for Pastner and he never had that big run with the last group to build up some goodwill.

Now, if he hires a certain person as his third assistant and locks down those 3-4 top shelf recruits for the future that's going to help him a lot.

Of course, next year's team could also come out and be his first team to actually exceed pre-season expectations. They really could and if they do that would be huge for JP.

I hope they come together and play lights out from the get-go.

Pastner exceeded expectations in YR 1

There were no expectations his first year. Elliot Williams transferred in and that was huge. So, in the sense that we expected nothing, yes his first team exceeded that.

Here we go. How do you NOT figure that?
If you don't, your expectations were way overblown.

I'm not saying he did poorly, but the above poster said he EXCEEDED expectations. We lost in the second round of the NIT that season.

Success cannot simply be measured by postseason results. That team was flawed in a great many ways, and they nearly made the tourney. I think expectations were exceeded.

NEARLY made the tournament? We weren't even on most "last 4 out" lists. That team was underwhelming, and lost to a really, really, really bad Houston team to slam the door on any chance at the NCAAs.

The only way expectations were exceeded is if you expected a losing season, and we had too many 4 star recruits on the roster for that to be reasonable.

Our best win that year was UAB..

Now I don't think many expected much worse. When I look at our schedule that year there are maybe 1 or 2 games that we won that I would have expected us to lose when the season started...But we lost 1-2 that I would have expected us to win as well.

It's nice that we are in sync with today's millions of Americans....standing in the graveyard of Tiger expectations and Memoriating.

04-cheers To Memorial Day and to all those who served our country-- some at the cost of their 'mental' well being..some at the cost of their life.

I watch that game while on a short vacation. I think we disturbed guests with our cheers upon Spoon's heroics.

03-lmfao I was sitting behind the basket watching the ball after Spoon put it up. An eternity. To this day, I believe everyone in the Forum, especially those of us behind the basket, made that ball go back in the cylinder and through the net. lol

Elliot was playing hurt the latter part of a season. A healthy Elloit may have helped us make a deeper NIT run.

Knee sprain, wasn't it? Elliot brought it every game. Glad to see him carving his niche in the NBA.

The guy I rooted hardest for in that group was Will Coleman. Not a great BB IQ, not a really skilled player, but a super nice guy. My kid idolized him and he talked to my kid after a game and gave him a towel as a souvenir.

Our front court would've been in deep doo-doo if Will hadn't honored his commitment. He got a lot of flack from the fair-weather fans around here ("Just wait til Tarik Black gets here, Coleman won't see the floor.") but he was a tough player.

Wow, just wow. I love the Tigers as much as anyone, but anyone who could look at that roster and not be impressed we were at least in the conversation for an NCAA bubble spot is analyzing though blue colored glasses.

The roster was severely flawed - no inside game, more spot/complimentary players verses players who would expected to play major minutes on a high-major team. Thank goodness Elliot Williams transferred in. Now, if only Shawn Taggert had stayed and Latavious Williams had decided to stick it out...

yea...we were so thin. Niles gone. Eliot hurt. Spoon stepped up so big.

The Johnnies' coach got fired right after the game.
