Would you leave your job?
If it would, initially at least, only be worth 1/6th of your current salary.

But, it had a lot of potential and was in the place you really want to live.

What would it take you for you to be willing to leave your job?

This was inspired by Blunder's recent change in job. Congratulations again!

RE: Would you leave your job?
Can you lead a happy lifestyle on what money it does pay?

It all boils down to happiness. Fear gets in the way. I have stayed in bad situations because I was afraid to change. That invites regret.

If you know you will be happier in another place then can you really put price on that?

However, if staying in a bad situation long enough to make enough money to create your ideal situation is the case, that also must factor into the decision.

I'd consider it. But there are many factors involved.

My current company treats its employees extremely well. My boss and clients are great, the environment is comfortable. It's not the work I'd prefer to be doing (at least not exclusively) but I have no complaints.

Gosh I don't know. If I knew that I could continue to pay my necessary bills I probably would. I have no desire to be rich. I wish I were more satisfied with my current job but the fear of not being able to pay my bills has kept me in this company for 3 years.

It should be noted that I have only ever been unemployed or underemployed since dropping out of grad school following my divorce in 2008. This is the most stable job I've had as an adult.

Would it change any of y'all's minds if it were to be working for yourself?

Probably so. The management at my current employer is difficult at best.

That's what I've been considering.

However, that presents its own set of challenges. (I'm hard to get along with)

LOL!

You just have a different personality.

I've been considering going out on my own for some time. I owe a lot to my current firm, three of my best friends in life started it and brought me in after my Rose and White issues. They've kind of put me in a position that I have no right to be in, blessed.

But, I live in a place I'm only moderately happy in and I've always wanted to start my own firm. It doesn't seem to ever be a good time.

Anyways, thanks for all of y'all's input.

I have a lot to yet again think about.

Still, how important do you consider where you love to be?
Does the idea of striking out on your own seem exciting?
What do you consider the risks?
Could you ever go back if it didn't pan out?
If you were to never again meet your old salary how much of would you need to be happy?
How does it fit in with life goals?

Is there a possibility of opening a new "branch" of the firm somewhere else? Might not have your name on it but you could probably make more money and still get to move without taking all of the risk......if that's a possibility.

Worked for myself before. The freedom is great, but it's now up to you to provide health care, 401ks and paid vacations.
