Donovan not on World Cup roster
I guess I am not really surprised. They will have to find a new poster boy now.

If the U.S. advances, I'll be pleasantly surprised. At 32, Donovan was done even by his own admittance.

So the one guy I've heard of isn't on the team? Are they any good?

Group 6: Germany, Portugal, Ghana, U.S.A. "Good?" is relative. That we're in the World Cup, qualifies us as "good". That we'll advance to the next round ahead of Germany and Portugal is highly suspect.

The two that advance out of this pool have top be among the top 10 favorites to win it all. No idea how they can justify this draw. #2 and #3 in the world and the team that has beaten us the last two time we played in WC.

But just to keep hopes up.

Landon off the roster doesn't shock me. Yedlin over Evans/Parkhurst and Brooks over Goodson are baffling. I'm guessing are starting lineup will be:

FW: Altidore
CAM: Dempsey
LM: Johnson
RM: Zusi
CM: Bradley/Jones
LB: Beasley
CB: Besler/Cameron
RB: Chandler
GK: Howard

We'll see a bunch of Bedoya, Beckerman, Green, and Johannson off the bench.

Overall a much better roster than 4 years ago. At least Ricardo Clark and Johnny Funtimes aren't playing huge minutes this WC.

Btw wouldn't shocked to see Gonzo starting at CB and Cameron at right back either. Although Klinsi has made it clear this week that he prefers Cameron in center of defense. I agree with him.

US is going to have to rely on its athleticism to get results.

Plus I am willing to wager a fair amount that JK promised World Cup roster spots to Green, Brooks, etc. if they made the switch.

Prandelli, the Italian coach, made a point that the Confed Cup last year showed him that, due to the heat, you need to take your 23 best athletes not necessarily your 23 best players. If you don't then over the course of the tournament you will get worn down.

Isn't Ronaldo out of the World Cup with an injury?

Hadn't heard any thing about Ronaldo but do know that Lars Bender was on Friday ruled out of next month's World Cup after suffering a thigh injury. This will certainly, negatively effect Germany's defensive midfield woes three weeks before their Brazil 2014 campaign. Nothing would please me more than to see either or both Germany and Portugal falter and the U.S. advance.

He had a hamstring issue but he is good to go. Should play in the Champions League final tomorrow. Kinda hoping he tears an ACL tomorrow.

Germany has a ton of injury issues right now. Most should be good to go by the WC but definitely cutting into training time.

Besides the two Bender brothers who are out, Lahm, Neuer, Schweinsteiger, Klose, Hummels, and Khedira all have some sort of injury concern right now.

Pepe, Khedira, Ronaldo, and Coentrao all getting hurt tomorrow would be great.

I'd drink to that, anywhere from Diet Coke to Scotch on the rocks!
