Nice efficient win for the 2nd straight day. Looks like we get a day off and then get the winner of the ODU-MTSU game Saturday morning (and that team will have to beat us twice on Saturday in order to advance).

RE: Rice vs. MTSU (Game 2 Winners Bracket)
Ball game!
A bit lackadaisical on both offense and pitching at the end, but the game was over by then.
Second consecutive strong, all-around game by the Owls! Very well done....and you've now earned yourselves a well-deserved day off.
Game Ball #1: Blake Fox (W, 12-0, 7.0 IP, 3 hits, 1 run, 2 BBs, 7 Ks) stays perfect-- both for the year and his career (now 18-0). Struggled a bit in the first inning, but then settled into a dominant groove, faltering only after the offense had put away the game in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Game Ball #2: Michael Aquino (2-4, HR#6, 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs) kept his scorching hot hitting going by breaking up the scoreless and hitless game in the fourth with his no-doubter HR.
Game Ball #3: Chase McDowell (2-3, triple, 1 run scored, 2 RBIs) broke open the game in the sixth inning with his 2-run triple.
Win streak now at five games, leaving us just one win away from that 40-win plateau for the 20th consecutive season. That potential 40th win should also lock up next weekend at Reckling Park. No stopping us now-- let's go for another championship, as the trophy case always has room for one more! Go Owls!

The win ticks us up past Vandy on Warren Nolan's RPI projection.

Looking at the C-USA Championship Central's bracket, this tourney is double-elimination only through Saturday ... and Sunday's championship match is a single-game winner-take-trophy-and-autobid affair ... correct?
EDIT: Yes. I see it clearly stated elsewhere on the C-USA website:
Quote:... the format returns to two double-elimination brackets, with a single-elimination championship game.

It was Vandy that moved, not us.

BTW, anyone else think The OG had them working on their bunting between Saturday and Wednesday? By my count (including Byrd's bunt single and Hoelscher safety squeeze), we're a perfect 7-7 in bunting so far this tournament.
