BBQ in Your Town (or State)
What's an offseason without arguments about things more important than football. :)

A lot of people here swear by Fox Brothers. Have only been once and did not like it. Daddy Dz on Hill Street has great ribs and decent pulled pork. They also have the best cornbread I have ever tasted. I will drive to Macon just for JL's. Best atmosphere and best bbq breakfast is Old Hickory House in Tucker. Pit Boss in Hapeville is also very good.

I'd probably go with Heirloom on Akers Mill as my favorite in Atlanta. BBQ1 on Lower Roswell, and Community Q in Decatur both get very honorable mentions as well... there really is plenty of good BBQ in Atlanta.

One of my favorites is a hidden gem in Galveston, Queen's. Sauce is hot as hell and not something I normally use but I manage it there.

Come to Troy, and go to Hooks! The other places are irrelevant.

I like the Brick Pit in Mobile (close to USA's campus). The pork is really good.

Woodlands in Blowing Rock (just outside if Boone) has really good Carolina BBQ and Southern sides. But I do live in Durham now, so I now realize that Woodlands Q isn't as elite as I once thought.

It's not technically in Boone, but five miles down the road in Blowing Rock there is Woodland's BBQ. Great pulled pork with a really nice atmosphere. George W., Obama, and Charlie Daniels have all eaten there when they've came through town.

Edit: Didn't see you send that in Gonzo. Btw, have you eaten at The Q Shack in Durham? Best BBQ and sides I've ever had.

http://www.brickpit.com

The Brick Pit, located on Old Shell Road near USA, has some great BBQ. The books A Thousand Places To See Before You Die in the US and Canada and Real Barbecue, The One-hundred Best BBQ Joints In The Country both feature the Brick Pit. Man vs. Food Nation on the Travel Channel filmed an episode there; you can watch it on the Brick Pit's website.

By the way, they were also featured in Maxim Magazine, August 2008, as having the best Wet Rib's in America. Hey, I'm just the messenger!

Yes! But Back Yard Pit BBQ on 55 is even better IMO. It's a hole in the wall and has the most amazing and unhealthy food you could imagine.

I do love Back Yard! I may just have a soft spot for Q Shack as that's where I always went growing up. Can't go wrong with either one though.

Usually go to Longhorn Cattle Company in San Benito when I am in the Rio Grande Valley. Last time in San Antonio tried County Line and liked it

There a a few BBQ places around Lafayette (Eddie's/2Pauls) but they are not the typical Texas style great BBQ. I do think Johnson's Boucaniere, while not a BBQ place per se, is a great traditional Louisiana smokehouse selling meats with typical south Louisiana spices and well worth the visit.

Eddie's BBQ http://www.eddiesbbq.net/

2Pauls Radically Urban barbeque http://www.2paulsbbq.com/

Johnson's BoucaniƩre http://www.johnsonsboucaniere.com/

Some of us living off the mountain have always marveled at the infatuation with Woodlands. I guess when you have no other option it's pretty good. I've had some really bad BBQ there. Once you've eaten Lexington style that Woodlands stuff is like eating ground up dry pork chops.

Louie Mueller BBQ - Taylor, TX

Have you ever actually ate at Louie Mueller's? It's good but the Taylor Cafe across the street is in my opinion better.

Fun fact: It was shown on the Chevy Superbowl commercial this year for about half a second with the owner, Vencil Mares shown sitting in his chair. It was big news around town.

In Roswell, GA There is a place called Spiced Right. It's a hole in the wall but the BBQ and sides are pretty good.

Farther north in Alpharetta there is a good place called 'Cue.
Awesome sides and pulled pork/ chicken. I've heard their brisket is good but I haven't tried it yet.

Best BBQ I've had has been small town GA/ AL/ SC/ NC whenever I was travelling for work.
