Too long, didn't read... It's another way of asking if you can summarize the story. I have to do this when I'm reading FranktheTank's posts all the time. Plus I've never seen Get Shorty, but I think I'll watch it on Netflix.

RE: Ronald Reagan and the Mafia
Summary.............

Hollywood in the 50's had a very cozy relationship with the mob. Reagan was very good friends with a mafioso boss and helped him along the way all the way up into the presidency. Some FBI guys were on a wiretap with the NY syndicate and connections were made but then the investigations were stonewalled. The book the article details goes into the cover ups and it leads back to Reagan's WH.

RE: Ronald Reagan and the Mafia
Organized crime has always been non-partisan. They support Democrats, Republicans, whoever they think is going to win. That doesn't mean that the candidates are pro-Mafia.

The accusation that Reagan had mob-connections is not new. It goes back at least as far as 1986, when author Dan Moldea wrote a book titled "Dark Victory: Ronald Reagan, MCA, and the Mob": http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Victory-Ronal...ory+Moldea

It's another shiny object to bring out to distract people from the current situation.

He shared a mistress with one of the mob-bosses of that era. She said that both men used her to pass some messages back-and-forth. Who knows for sure, but that seems plausible to me. Apparently it was Frank Sinatra who introduced her to both men (Kennedy and the Mafia guy).

I've never seen any credible evidence that President Kennedy personally dealt with the Mafia in any way on a business/$$$ level. Stuff like that was the realm of his father, Joseph P. Kennedy.

There was a scene from Homicide: Life on the Streets, where Munch says it was J Edgar Hoover who dealt w/ the mob for the feds, and they made a deal to have Baltimore if they stayed out of DC.

Don't share his outlook on life, but Richard Belzer would probably be a fascinating person to talk to about religion/politics/history/etc.

All that is true (at least there appears to be overwhelming evidence) and yet Bobby Kennedy, as AG, went after the mob big time. One of the "theories" about the JFK assassination was that the mob was behind it because they supported JFK but Bobby went off program.

yeah, but I'm sure you've heard the cliche about the fruit and the tree.
