Wrestling is an odd sport. Everyone has good wrestlers. The wrestling teams have been disappearing. Missouri now competes in the MAC because when they left the Big 12 for the SEC, they found that the SEC doesn't even have wrestling.

I don't follow it closely, but it seemed that we had some exceptional wrestlers and some good team wins.

We all know that EMU offers more sports than most ither MAC level schools. Is now the right time to cut wrestling?

RE: EMU also looking for wrestling coach
Dave Boylard is the best to hire in this position.

1) He is a very accomplished wrestler

2) He has run extremely successful club wrestling camps in the past

3) Knows the program and is am major reason why it has increased its success in the past years.

Dear Friends,
I think it's time to drop the rowing program. It has never been successful. If any of you have checked the results from their meets, Eastern's rowers are an embarrassment. Finishing many times over a minute behind the competition. Most of the time finishing 30 to 45 seconds behind the competition. In rowing that is not being competitive.

Rowing is kind of a Title IX sport. Sport to boost the number of female scholarship participant count.

RE: EMU also looking for wrestling coach
Dear steve,
When you say Title IX, does that mean an equalizing of the number of scholarships that the men have? If one looks at the various sports offered to the men and women at Eastern, they approximate each other with the men probably about twenty more because of football.

Yep. Men have more scholarship and there are more males than females at EMU, hence, that is the problem with Title IX.

You do not want to cut wrestling now, with the Big 12 down to just 4 wrestling programs with Nebraska, Colorado and Mizzou leaving the conference; Oklahoma's wrestling coach has publicly stated that he wants to merge Big 12 wrestling with MAC.

Imagine a conference with:

MAC Wrestling All Sports Conference members

EMU, Ohio, Buffalo, NIU, CMU, Kent

Current Wrestling Affiliate Members
Old Dominion, Northern Iowa(wrestling crazy state), Missouri

Add the Big 12
Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, West Virginia

Imagine the interest in home wrestling meets with name programs like these. Adding the Big 12 would also mean West Virginia in the MAC for 2 sports (Soccer).
Adding the Big 12 should also help in getting OOC football games by developing a relationship with the AD's of these programs which is easier to do when at least one of their sports teams is in your conference.

I agree with developing relationships with Big 12 and other conference schools.

Indeed it is an 'in' to add football, basketball and baseball games for EMU and the MAC.
