In Memphis, I like like Central at night and Payne's in the day (no way am I going here at night). In Nashville area, I eat at B&C BBQ the most. Mainly because they have the best sides.

within a block or two of Payne's is Central Gardens...one of Memphis' nicest neighborhoods (and where I live)...I would also add you won't be eating there at night because they normally close around 5:30

Outside of those areas, I can't recall sustained serious discussion around "best" BBQ from other areas. That's not to say that there aren't great individual BBQ restaurants in isolated locations, but the above mentioned areas are loaded with them.

Yeah, we don't know anything about BBQ in Georgia...

Sure. Traditional Georgia 'cue is hickory smoked pork. Throw in a side of Brunswick stew.

Beef =/= BBQ

Nah, I gotta throw the BS flag. It's just that barbecue is a very regional food, and this board covers a wide region.

In most of the Southeast, if you walk into a BBQ joint and order "a barbeque sandwich", they'll give you chopped pork, most likely hickory smoked. Make the same order in most of Texas and you'll more than likely be served mesquite smoked beef brisket.

Having eaten plenty of both, they're both barbeque.

Or maybe I should lob a grenade back - if it has a scoop of damn cole slaw on it, it ain't barbecue.

Regional food, bud.

One should only take advice on food from fat people...you just can't trust a skinny chef.

^^^This. When I met my wife I saw that most of them were, ahem, healthy. I told myself, "now, this family knows and likes to cook". I was right, they sure can cook and I'm the winner for it, that is, marriage into this family. 03-lmfao

Those in the picture look like Texas Western cheerleaders.

If you buy in to the idea that BBQ can be brisket, then I have to think that Franklin's in Austin is the best. It's seriously life changing BBQ... but the lines are kind of insane these days.

Interestingly, the place that most people claim is the best in Houston - Gatlin's - is run by a former Rice football player. I went there last weekend and it was quite good... but not quite life changing.

I have traveled all over this great country and tried every kind of bbq you can think of.

The best BBQ is in Texas. They win and there is no real competition. You can not beat brisket and smoked sausage from the hill country of Texas.

When you're using "BBQ showdowns" as a measuring stick, Myron Mixon's home state does not qualify as "etc".

Umm, smoked sausage in a flour tortillas topped with mustard and nothing else. Love it. As you can tell I love tortillas and if I can I'll eat everything wrapped in one, soup would be hard though. :)
