I've seen MLB managers do it enough in the postseason (mainly one Larussa, Tony) to be painfully aware of the calendar mechanics.

At least at that level, it seems to rarely work (putting aside even the arm abuse aspect).

First off, UTSA has two closers (Onda and Simms), both of whom pitched in Game 1 today. Second, they have 3 other quality relievers.
