What Case. Sun Belt football does not need UMASS.

UMASS football does nothing for the Sun Belt.

If UMass could arrange a decent media contract for the Sun Belt
they would have a lot of support for membership.

If UMASS could arrange a decent media contract there fooball team would not be looking for a new home since they would still be a football member of the MAC. Like I standed above UMASS add no value to the Sun Belt.

Does make you wonder if WKU opposition was the reason last
year or just so much opposition from all, particularly Eastern,
SBC members because of expenses.

Perhaps 2015 for NMSU. Going to an Ambassador Football meeting June 3rd. The first year going FBS it was TV and radio, which was unsuccessful. Last year we started the Ambassador Football program were you are give official things to say, a dedicated Football admin for all contact in selling group tickets. Expect the official line to be the same as what was in the leaving MAC announcement. We also received a nice extra bonus. Free tickets to see a Patriot Football preseason game. Seats were pretty centered in the end zone not far up. It was a nice time.

That is curious.
Well, the WAC would like to thank you guys for giving more stability to find another team to join.

Me likes....Keeping our option of dropping Idaho later and adding 2 all sport schools to tighten our footprint trumps some hypothetical windfall of adding a 12th now.

Good move SBC

That is curious. But, I think the big thing is when the NCAA passes the CCG rules in August it'll change the dynamic for the Sunbelt on needing a 12th team....unless the benefit of having divisions is more beneficial.

I would be fine dropping Idaho and having NMSU join all sports and sit at 10/12.

It could come down to if you decide to keep Idaho and then drop to 10.....it which you still may be able to hold a CCG playing a 8 game schedule.
11 works fine for the other sports since you are keeping a 8 team tournament.

This does nothing to abate the hypothetical school addition threads. They will continue to flow like water.

And its not entirely predictable what that change will be, or whether it will pass, since it would not be the first "sure thing" NCAA reform proposal to either mutate or fall down in the obscure morass of NCAA politics.

So there's a risk in making a move based on one theory of what the change will be, only to see a different change take place. Much safer to wait and see what passes, and then get a reading from media insiders what the incremental value of various alternatives are.

Nothing more than any generic FBS school would do ... and what that might be is not yet actually decided. The notion that having UMass FB-only is going to open up a big New England media market for the Sunbelt is obviously silly.

Getting NMSU all-sports and an OOC BBall deal with UMass would be a benefit to Sunbelt BBall, which was dead last among Go5 conference this last year by a wide margin, and seems likely to be heading further down before it starts heading up.

Same thing was said for U Denver, and that was a total flop.

Told all of you trolls that Liberty and the rest was not happening ever in 2014. So I never want a post from anybody whose close association with someone at a university who said this or that was happening to ever post again. You will be outed as someone who thinks wishes makes facts.

I did give NMSU a fair shot at making it in all sports, this is a miss by the members.

One final edit, could we simply kill the nearly four hundred pages of Liberty nonsense. Maybe y'all can start a new one when UL and stAte leave you with your new mistress and of course good old ULM WarHoax.

OFFICIAL league announcement after meetings
There just wasn't anyone ready or willing to make the move this year. I would like to know what Missouri State's official reason for declining an invite. Was it because of basketball or was it because they weren't ready? Or something else? I think the JMU train has passed. I wouldn't bark up that tree three years in a row. Liberty too seems unlikely to ever get enough votes. UMass was a Hail Mary at best. I think the only real candidates we have left for next spring are Mo State and EKU.

A Hail Mary is when the clock is running down. Unlike the FCS call-ups with a June 1 application deadline the year before they join the FBS conference that invites them, there's no need to make a decision on UMass before the ACC's proposal to deregulate the CCG is settled.

Obviously UMass has to continue working out its strategy for playing as independents, and the Sunbelt with 11 FB members is uniquely placed to give them late season home and away FB games in a swap for OOC home and away BBall games.

It's Lamar. They've been secretly added. We just don't want to say it until next year.

We actually added Lamar two years ago on the condition that they never reveal that they are a member and forego playing a league schedule.

RE: OFFICIAL league announcement after meetings
This is definitely not "official," but many of us strongly believe MO State is not ready to make a commitment to FBS this soon...regardless of the conference. We still stand to receive quite a few basketball tournament units from the MO Valley. Any announcement of moving football (and the rest of our sports) to another conference would take that money off the table. Our administration has to be extremely careful/quiet about future plans so the state and the BCS school in Columbia don't get involved in our business.

We're currently in our 7th month of renovating our football stadium and constructing other athletic facilities (http://www.missouristatebears.com/facili...ion.html). Once that's done, the only athletics facility more than 10 years old will be our student center, an arena that holds volleyball and our swimming and diving facility.

It's kind of a slippery for MO State. We don't want to miss the bus, but we can't get to the stop too early.

The weirdest thing about all this seems to be so many posters wanting to include
Missouri State, yet their total lack of interest. If they are not interested, why even
continue discussing them. Does not seem the Sun Belt was serious about adding
a 12th member, regardless of what was said by Benson, with Missouri State not even
having been contacted concerning the subject.

"Contacted" and "Contacted by the conference" are two different things. There has definitely been some ongoing discussion between the Sun Belt and MO State for several years.

It's very hard to explain, but we've had a long history of doing things out of the public eye for some reason. Hell...in 2006 we had a $70 million arena/$30 million donation announcement without anyone knowing about it until it happened. The only people that know for sure what's happening are our president, AD and big donors.

Politics in Missouri are stupid. University of Missouri alumni try to control pretty much anything related to higher education. The only way we got enough votes in the General Assembly to change our name to Missouri State was when several of the regional schools banded together...and it still took last minute talks between our president and Mizzou's president to avoid a long-term filibuster by an MU alum that could have closed out the session.

I've gotta say that was a build up to nothing. But in a way it was expected. In all other conference movement there is plenty of smoke and info leaked well in advance and memebrs are added well before the meetings. This year there were plenty of rumors, as always, but no smoke.

We get to dance this dance again next year. But with JMU all but off the table and no other strong options, I'm guessing it stays at 12 unless other movement higher up the food chain occurs.

I was really hoping for NMSU all sports.

We are interested because we know them and know they fit. They are one of the few right now in the footprint that do.

Stays at 12? The Sun Belt is an 11/13 conference.

It seems as though Benson sounded disappointed that nothing was done this year in that announcement.
