Wow-kinda early for something like this. But this has us going to New Mexico vs Utah St.

I'm cool with the New Mexico Bowl, but would rather go to New Orleans if not Heart of Dallas.

RE: Bowl Prediction 2014
If we continue to be bowl-eligible in the next couple of years, I expect the conference is going to ship us to Hawaii or the Bahamas sooner or later. Our small fanbase doesn't hurt us too much when it's a major trip to make it anyway, and one would presume that the median income of a Rice fan is more likely to support that kind of trip than that of any of our conferencemates. Especially now that SMU and Tulane are gone.

Bowl Prediction 2014
The NCAA National Championship Game will be played in Arlington TX at AT&T (Cowboys) Stadium.
Of course, to get there we'd have to win our semifinal playoff game.

And 13 straight games before that.

Anyway, that's my early postseason projection.
I'm sure Bama will be geeked to finally get a crack at us again after 60 years.

I love Arlington in January. Not that I've ever been in Arlington in January. If we can somehow get past the first two games against top-20 opponents the odds begin to approach conceivable - or at least measurable.

USA today is posting their top 128 in descending order, day by day. Of the bottom 22 teams, 5 are on our schedule. OD, Hawaii, So Miss, FIU, and UTEP. If we don't beat ourselves....

Man! If we don't trip up, there are six wins right there. We get UTSA and UNT at home, so we should have a good shot at winning two more. Louisiana Tech may be the wild card. Who knows what they'll do? I don't think we beat Marshall on the road, but 8 wins looks like an attainable goal. Wow! Let me settle down.

RE: Bowl Prediction 2014
How well the new S&C staff gets the team ready this summer is going to be crucial. We have a lot of questions in terms of size and experience. The S&C coaches can't help with experience per se, but they can help with size, strength, endurance, quickness, and speed. If you possess those attributes, you can at times overcome the lack of experience. For example, we've been spoiled at center for the past two years with a brilliant, 6-4 300lb Center. Now we have three underclassman vying for that position, of whom two are RS Freshmen and the other a RS Sophomore. According to the last roster chart, only one of those guys had the size at 6-4 290. Then there is DE position where quickness abounds, but not so with size.

But with that said, I think that there are a minimum of 8 wins on the schedule. We have UNT and UTSA at home. Both teams are replacing the most important position on offense: QB. Of interest to me is that we close the season with three road games...but no Thursday games as far as I can tell. I'm really looking forward to Notre Dame and A&M just from the stand point of assessing our progress.

Couple more projections from ESPN: http://espn.go.com/college-football/stor...014-season

Schlabach also has us playing Utah State, but in Hawaii. McMurphy has us playing Washington State in the Heart of Dallas bowl

OD is a scary game...they will be hungry and will come in with a strong passing game

Army on the road may prove harder than it looks on paper...when you only play the triple option once a year, it can prove hard to defend...the offense had better score some points that day. I am planning to be at that game to see it in person.

I still remember the '95 tie. That was at a time when the Owls certainly should have known how to defend the option. But sometimes what makes sense in theory isn't what happens on the field.

Ultimately, the oddity of their offense hasn't actually helped Army win many games in recent years. They went 3-9 last year.

I expect at least a couple of those lower-ranked opponents will play better than we expect, a la Tulane last year or Army in 2008. Even so, those are games the Owls need to win.

Absolutely. It'll be nice to be favored on the road this year, but I know we'll get good efforts from Southern Miss, Army and Louisiana Tech. They'll give us good games.

We are planning a trip to NY for the Army game. What are your plans for tickets?
